Question about Dell 946 All-In-One InkJet Printer

My Dell 946 All in One displays 'Right Cartridge Incorrect'

This first happened when I removed the colour cartridge for cleaning. I inadvertantly left a small piece of masking tape over the print contacts. With this in place the printer displayed 'Right Cartridge Missing' Realizing my mistake. I removed the cartridge and the tape, wiped the contacts, (also the printer contacts) and replaced the cartridge. The printer then displayed. Right Cartridge Incorrect. I purchased a replacement cartridge from Dell, but this still displays 'Right Cartridge 'Incorrect'. Very frustrating. Can you please help ?.

    I purchased the printer in Aug 2007 and probably only used it a couple of times. When I tried to print, the pages came out blank so I thought perhaps I needed new cartridges. I took them out to see if I could purchase them at a store nearby. Well, I noticed on the back of the color cartridge there was a transparent blue tape. My friend thought this was a problem so I took off the tape. I am now getting a message that the right cartridge is incorrect. I already ordered a replacement black cartridge from Dell but, I really didn't know if I needed it or not as the pages that I tried to print initially just came back blank. What can I do to try to correct the problem with the right cartridge (which is the color cartridge) and what about the transparant blue tape on the back?????

    Message on printer said that old color cartridge (right side) was low on ink so I replaced it with a new one of the same part number. I took off the tape covering the ink supply and installed the new cartridge. Message said right cartridge is missing. I reinstalled the old one and it said ink was low but it continued to print. I took it out again and reinstalled the new cartridge and the message still said right cartridge is missing.

Install old cartriage, if you still have it, let the machine tell you that it is empty, then go through the install process with one of the new ones.

We keep getting left cartridge incorrect message?


Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 5 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges .

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 5 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would that these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.

My printer want print black but have a new cartridge i have a 946 dell printer ...it keep telling me right cartridge missing


You could clean the black ink cartridge. For this you need to remove the blank ink cartridge which is present in the printer. In order to clean the laser or scanner block you could use a cotton swab as it would fully clean the dirt. You need to clean the grime and the dried ink present in the printer. This would remove all the hindrances which prevent the ink from flowing. Cleaning the printer heads would also help to solve the problem.

Left ink cartridge incorrect. It is the right ink


A trick which may work is cleaning the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer.

Make sure you've switched it off first, I'd try gently buffing with a soft dry cloth first.

HP reccommend using distilled water and cotton buds, but not alcohol based cleaning fluids.

Allow the water to evaporate before replacing cartridge and switching on.

Won't print with one cartridge


I can get my 946 to print with just a black cartridge, as long as I select black and white printing (there is an error message on the PC but I can just select 'continue'). But with just a photo cartridge (i.e. a combined black and colour one) it won't work - looks the same, but the 'continue' option doesn't work.

Right cartridge incorrect and printer will not


I have the same issue where the printer displays "Right cartridge Incorrect". However, it's had no problems up until about two weeks ago and I've had the right cartridge in place for about a year or so.

Printer: AIO 922 (All-In-One 922)
Ink: Remanufactured ink

Right cartridge missing


Put an original blank cartridge and then tell me wether it tells you the same. Then I can deffinetly help you out further with refilling solutions.

Dell 946 A10 Printer will not accept genuine Dell Cartridge


Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

You can either try 'wicking' the cartridge - remove and wipe on a wet towel, then dry. Otherwise you can try to power cycle the printer with the cartridges out of the unit.

Dell AIO 962 printer faulty


Hi,
The error you are referring to could be related to either the cartridge or the printer, so please perform the steps below to check if the issue lies in the printer or the cartridge.
Power on the printer and open the top cove, the cartridges will align in the middle of the printer, remove both the cartridges form their slots and interchange them, yes put the Black cartridge in the Blue slot and the Color cartridge in the Black slot, then close the top cover of the printer and power off the printer and restart it, at this point of time check if the error message is changed or not if the error message is not changed and till showing the same as “Right cartridge is incorrect” then you can try to update the printer firmware form the Dell support site, here is how you can do it.
  1. Go to www.support.dell.com.
  2. Click on Drivers & Downloads.
  3. Under Option 2: Select a Product as printers.
  4. Locate the printer(s) 962 printer and click Go.
  5. Select an Operating System that is installed in your computer then choose downloads and look for Firmware.
  6. Download and install the firmware, then restart the computer and the printer, however please make sure that you do not restart your computer and the printer when the download and the installation is in progress.
If the issue is still not fixed after you upgraded the firmware then I believe that you will have to replace it. However if the error message changes to Left cartridge incorrect after you have interchanged the cartridges earlier then try these steps below.
  1. Remove the color cartridge and clean the metal contacts of the cartridge with a dry cloth thoroughly please make sure that you are using a soft dry cloth to clean the metal contacts of the cartridge.
  2. Make sure that the cartridge holder snap which sits on the top of the cartridge is fixed firmly.
  3. Make sure that you are using a Dell branded cartridge and it is not a refilled one cause Dell printers often give error message when you use a refilled cartridge or a cartridge of some other brand.
  4. If the issue is still not resolved replace the color cartridge.

Just found this partial fix: "Try removing the color cartridge and try printing with the color cartridge out. If it gives you a message that the cartridge is missing, it will still allow you to print by clicking "continue". And from there, it will allow you to print black. I think it really is a problem with your color cartridge." From searching the net, this seems to be a major problem with no solution from Dell!
