Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera
It is the auto focus light. The sensor needs it in order for the camera to figure out how to adjust the lens.

Seems like you have the AF Illuminator set to on in the SET UP. This lights up every time the camera thinks it is not light enough, gives more brightness to the picture!
