Have a MINT Panasonic PV -1000 VHS VCR. No picture, just fades in and out with streaks and lines. Sound is low. Also, video head drum spins constantly when unit is powered on. Was told it is the speed...

I did an online search for this model and nothing came up. The nearest I got to it was a YouTube video of a PV 1100, which dates to 1978. If your model is that old you will have a job tracking down the parts needed to fix it. If you can't fix it yourself (if you have no knowledge of VCR repair) the best you can do is track down a service manual for it. You might have to check out the Technology section of a main City Library. Then all you need find is a chap who worked with these old videos in the past. Maybe in some repair shop that has been around for ages. As long as it is some kind of electrical fault it should be possible to get the parts for it. Back in the late 70's the use of microchips was limited and transistors were more common, which is why the video's were so big and heavy back then. Transistors are much easy to get hold of then IC parts from that period.

Of course such a person is going to charge a lot as basically you are asking them to restore what is rapidly becoming a museum piece. But if you have the cash somebody will do it.

When attempting to load a tape into the AG-DV2000, the cassette door does not open and the display reads F07.

i had the same issue with my ag-dv2000, a fun problem to solve without a service manual. first verify we are dealing with the same issue.first open hopper fully and apply power. you should get an f06 error(failure to close in required time), now close hopper and apply power, you should get a f07 error (failure to open in required time). if this is the case the bad part is the motor drive ic. ic 1 on the motor drive board mounted to bottom of dv mech. it is a 10 pin ic labeled xra6887. i have not located a source yet but you can confirm the chip is bad by replacing it with ic6502 on the same board. if you put the bad chip in place of ic 6502 you will ground power supply and will not have power, leave it out. it controls threading motor, not needed to verify problem. the door should work now. dont put in a tape untill you replace bad chip. if you find the panasonic part number for this part please post it. happy desoldering!

It will not record color in vhs or svhs.

It is the failure of the chroma processing IC that works with a biasing when the recording is activated. Failure of this frequency which has to be generated within or around these circuits wil result in the colour signals being out of sync. You will need a good signal trace with an oscilloscope to get to the real issue. I believe you will need to bench test this to get to the final point of trouble. You can check for head cleaning, resolder the joints of the chroma section, solderr any section looking mushy. hope this helps. Good day

ILink not working. Computer does not recognize the deck. What intenal component(s) is faulty?

i-link ic might have blown due to back voltage spikes to it from computer through the cable. check with a service centre and replace the ic if faulty. otherwise i link cable or connector may be faulty. be in mind that never connect or disconnect i link cable while mechine is connected to power ( even in OFF condition also).

Hi! On my DSR-1800, the display in the upper lefthand part of the front panel has suddenly gone black! The machine works otherwise. I have disconnected the cables inside and sprayed with an electronics...

There are a number of possibilities here:

1) Power to the display is missing (check the power suppy and the pins of the display itself for poor/broken solder connections).
2) Display driver IC defective
3) Main CPU not sending info to display IC.

Were there any other symptoms prior to the display stopping? If not, check for the connections at the display itself first and update this with the results. I'll look up the service manual in the meantime to check for other posibilities.

Sony VCR w/ no audio

You have not mentioned the model no. so I can only talk generally.
Most common reason for this would a fault in the vif module or audio processor IC.
Not a DIY fault.
