Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

Whirlpool AWO 3771 leaking/eating socks!

Whirlpool AWO 3771 - approx. 2-years old.
Socks keep working their way through the machine to the sump hose and filter, causing a blockage and leakage. Occasionally causes the dispenser hose to pop off either the drawer or drum end. becoming more frequent! This seems to happen more often than for anyone else I ask. Machine not overloaded and socks now in a mesh bag! Could there be a problem with the door seal, or the way the drum is mounted causing to big a gap - allowing clothes through too easily?

SOURCE: Hotpoint WD64, leaking water from soap drawer

your condenser is blocked, you might be lucky and get away with just cleaning it, but most of the time it is just best to change it. You will have to take the back off again it is the plastic component with the fan motor attached, disconnect the 2 black tubes to it [note where they come from] unscrew the 3 bolts at the bottom , disconnect the wires going to the fan motor. If you are going to change the condensor you will have to take the fan motor off aswell MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE MACHINE FROM THE MAINS. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: Kenmore eats socks - now they are moldy

Hello seesoc,

You can try to get them out yourself but not to sure, depends on where they are at. Small clothing items (like socks) usually get stuck in the rubber gasket. If you have not already check the rubber gasket really good and see if you find them. If they have gotten past that point probably not something you want to do yourself. They would be inbetween the inner and outer stainless steel drum. If you cant find them take care if you start the wash and leave, there have been a lot of reports of the socks working thier way over and blocking the water intake hose from the soap dispenser causing all the water to come out the front and on the floor. If you can find them and get them out the best fix is to get a large garment bag to keep all the small items together and from wandering off during the wash. Hope this helps and I hope they are just in the gasket and not inbetween the drums.

Thanks,

SOURCE: My Whrilpool Duet keeps

Hi,

That is a common problem with the Whirpool duets. Small clothing articles, especially baby socks go through the drum lip to the drain pipe.

Best to buy a zip-up laundry bag and place all the small clothing items in there.

Best Regards
Ash

Sock lost in whirlpool washer

They are most likely jammed under the agitator, or IN it, if it has a 2 piece structure as many of them do. They should not harm the machine, and new socks are cheaper than a service call.

Water not filing machine

Take the back of the washer off and find the pump and disconnect the hoses. Check the pump intake area. I had a sock stuck in my pump. Don't ask how a sock got there but that was the problems. Also check the screens in your hoses that supply the water to the washer.

My whirlpool awo/d5716 keeps ripping clothes. it looks like they are going down between the drum and door seal. its ripping mostly sleeves and i keeps losing socks which end up in the filter. if i put one...

It may be that the drum bearing has failed, allowing the clothes to get where they shouldn't be. Stop using it. Get a technician in, because it could fail and do irreparable damage

Mildew odour from Whirlpool Duet washer.

I've had this problem a couple of times over the years I've had this washer. What caused the odour in my machine was one (or more) of my kids' socks getting stuck in the machine. With the door open, gently reach in and bend the grey rubber door seal back and feel for clothes that have slipped between the drum and the rubber. If there's nothing there and it has been smelling bad for a while, then it's likely that the socks have been sucked into the drain. To clear this without paying a $150 service charge (I did that the first time and watched him fix it in 10 minutes), you'll need to remove the bottom front plate of the washer (there are only three or four Torx -or star head- screws holding it on). Once that plate is off, you'll see a white plastic knob that is the cap of the drain trap. Unscrew the cap and a couple of cups of water will leak out so shove a couple of towels under it beforehand. You should find some long-lost now-rotting socks. The last time I had to do this, I found FOUR socks in there. This also contributes to the 'suds' error message as it prevents proper drainage. I've only had this problem with kids' socks, everything else is too big to get stuck, I guess. Maybe try a laundry bag for the smaller stuff.

Getting F02 error, machine stops part way in & beeps.

Thank you so much for posting your solution of the F02 error code. I was having the same problem and noticed that my clothes smelled like mold and I didn't understand why. Anyway, my husband "cleaned the filter". He found four socks.
Awhile back, I noticed that I was missing a lot of socks. One day I pulled the gray flap in the washer and found around 15 socks! I now check that flap after every wash.

Again, thanks for posting your solution. It was an easy fix and it saved us $$.
