Question about Mitsubishi WD-52327 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Lamp works, but it says to replace it.

Hey there,

I hope you don't mind if I run one by you.
I've got a friend with a Mitsubishi WD-52327 52" rear proj tv.

She said it needed a new lamp. So I had a look.
Pulled the front panel, pulled the lamp. Noticed it was dusty inside and cleaned the filter and fans.

The lamp didn't look fried. Stuck a meter on it and got no continuity. But I really don't know how this type lamp should respond.

Lamp Cartridge Part No. 915P020010

For giggles, I put the lamp back in, closed the panels up and plugged it in. Hooked up a cable line and turned it on.

It worked......., for about a half hour. Then went black.
Evidently it has a pattern of doing this.

Any ideas? Things to check? Sources for replacement bulbs that don't cost $300.00+?

Thanks,
Mike

    Andrew,
I wanted to thank you again for the great advice. What to do, what to put off, spot on in all aspects.
She had the lamp shipped next day air. If the ice storms didn't let up, she wasn't going to get cabin fever from no TV. I installed it last night. So far so good. None of the symptoms have reoccurred.

Bonus Points: Even including the shipping fees, using your supplier saved her so much money over Mitsubishi that she said she was going shopping for me.

    Thank again,
    Mike

You are not going to believe this one. My TV had the solid red light took it out inspected the bulb noticed on top where the the wire feeds through there was a black mark I carefully wiped the black off cleaned my filter stuck the bulb back in and its working like new again. Color is brighter than ever. Also left TV unplugged for 1/2 not sure how long it will last but will enjoy as long as it works. Others might want to give this a try before spending hundres of dollars that may not be necessary.

Mike,
The Mitsubishi DLP sets are known for a round of bad capacitors, especially in the power supply and on the DM module. Let's start with the lamp though. You can find a replacement "bulb" (that means you have to disassemble the housing and install the new bulb ib the old housing) here:
http://bmb.goemerchant.com/cart/cart.aspx?ST=buy&Action=add&Merchant=rivervalleyelectronicparts&ItemNumber=915P020010!45A
This is an OSRAM replacement lamp, which is the only company that I would recommend you try, the cost is $120.
If you replace the lamp and still have problems, you need to try replacing a couple of cpas on the power supply board. They are C9A37 and C9A38, 3300 ufd. at 16 volts. I would use 3300 ufd at 25 or 35 volt caps for replacements. If you're still having issues, get back to me and there are some other things to check.

My Mitsubishi WD-60C9 60 in. HDTV DLP TV shuts off and a read light comes on how can I fix this?

The first thing to do is examine the lamp---average life is 2,000 hours or 2 years.

Other issues include:

Possible Lamp Ballast (powers the lamp)

Dust and Dirt----Enough can get pulled into set---air intakes from front of set and exits rear---enough dirt gets inside one or all the fans slow down some (does not take much) and set shuts down.

I have seen many Mitsubishi sets come into our shop where the set was dead--removed rear cover and rolled it outside and with air compressor cleaned it out front and back(looks like a dust storm so don't do it in house) and bingo---set came up and worked.

The Lamp is customer replaceable on most of these (see owner manual) and aside from it or the dirt issue a qualified person should look at the set (home service usually a waste of money here).

Ballast is possible if repeated lamp failure but I have a solution I posted several times for this type of problem that works and is simple to try:

Mitsubishi model WD-52725 has a fast blinking timer light on constantly and tv will not power up. Tried unplugging and resetting with no success. Now What?

It sounds like you need to replace the lamp for your TV unit. Also don't forget to replace the lamp use hours timer otherwise the TV unit will not recognize a new lamp has been installed. I hope this helps. Good luck.

The lamp is either defective, not connected properly to the wiring or plugs (careful alignment required on the two connections), wrong type bulb, or the front panel is not replaced properly to trigger the panel sense switch (lower right side of panel)
