You don't need drivers to format a computer, well, not installe anyway, as the process would simply delete the contents of the index file. The data is never deleted per se, just not indexed and consequently overwritten by new data.

Could you clarify what exactly happens after you press the power button and/or reset button? You say you removed its memory by removing the jumpers, what jumpers did you remove? Jumpers shouldn't need to be removed from the hardware. If you've removed the jumpers from the DVD ROM that doesn't really help I'm afraid. Put that back in that case. In most ROM you can set the jumper to "Cable Select" to allow your device to work no matter which position (master/slave primary/secondary) it is hardware installed in.

Please ellaborate on where exactly it stop booting on its own. Every step it goes through from when you start thecomputer.

If windows isn't detecting your dvd drive and you think it's because of a virus, check if your bios is detecting it alright. if it is you can just change your boot options to boot from CD and you can format your computer without starting windows.

your initial problem is where you need to think here , why did it suddenly stop working, usually its done, to some extent something's yes can be re-installed like the driver software that runs the device from the pc, but when your pc is telling you its unknown, unfortunately this means, i ask myself it was earlier now it isn't, however if its the case that some how your drivers became corrupt on the system, due to a virus, malware or something, it could be just as simple as finding the correct drivers, double check your drivers just to be sure http://www.pcworld.com/article/2089404/how-to-easily-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-windows.html , in saying this, if its still not working after this , try a format from Disk Management, if its found in their, if not , your drive is gone

This is clearly a virus. I think your best shot is to take the computer to technician and ask him to try and save the data if you have something really important. Restoring data may cost quite a lot of money, so I would advise you to only do this if you have something really really important. If you do not have any crucial information on your laptop, I would suggest to format the laptop and install the windows anew.
Viruses tend to implement themselves and reinstalling the windows with no format is still too risky. I know that a lot of people will tell you to run an anti virus and let it take care of the virus for you, but in the bottom line- it doesn't remove the virus, simply because viruses are updating on a daily basis and anti-viruses can't keep up

Formatting my computer

you can google it and download the drivers and utilities for your computer. just take a list of your hardware peripherals you would be just fine. if your running windows xp or vista, both OS have a wide range of driver database. they would be easily identified and work properly.
