Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

Convergence issues I was recently given a older Sony KP-48S35 projection tv with a convex picture. I wanted to try and repair it. With the remote, I can adjust the convergence left and right, but not up and down? From what I have been reading this is probably a bad convergence IC. I have read there are pico fuses protecting the IC's and to make sure they are not blown. I have looked all over the board, does anyone have any idea where they might be? Also, is there any way to prove that I have one or both IC's bad? Thanks for the help, I was wanting to put some of my electronics training to good use but it didn't take long for me to get lost.

There on front left board is 2 black ic chips STK392-560s or STK392-110 depends sony uses different #s replace with same part number if it is a 392-110 use 392-180s they are better then 110s you can order parts at Electronix Parts -800-223-3205. When 1 is bad always replace both of them.

My sony tv model # KP-46WT510 the picture bows to the middle i tried fixing the convergence and it does nothing what else should i try

If the convergence feature did not fix the issue then you will need to install a convergence repair kit. Your model uses the Sony type 1 convergence repair kit which is available from www.tvrepairworld.com and includes the parts and the CD with instructions.

look for the board that has heavy heat sinks on them the ic will be stk392-XXX
no experience in soldering i would send the board into ptscorp.com and have them repair it.
