Get a bootable CD, go to bios setup and change the first boot device to CD ROM. Then boot to the CD, re-install. Go to manufacturer's site for drivers that are installed.

How to Reload Windows XP Without Removing Files Deleting system files, modifying the registry and installing incompatible drivers to Windows XP can damage the integrity of the operating system, rendering it inoperable. Virus infections are often responsible for making the aforementioned changes to a system, but employees who have administrative access to the workstation can make deleterious modifications to the OS as well. Reinstalling Windows XP can repair the OS, but if work-related files are stored to the system partition, all of the data will be erased during the installation process. To reload Windows XP without losing files, you can perform an in-place upgrade, also known as a repair installation.

Step 1
Insert the Windows XP CD into the optical drive and then press "Ctrl-Alt-Del" to restart the computer. Step 2Press any key when prompted to load the contents of the disc. Press "Enter" on the Welcome to Setup screen.
Step 3 Read the license agreement, pressing "PgDn" to scroll down the page. Press "F8" to agree to the terms. The CD will search for previous installations of Windows XP. Step 4
Press "R" to repair the selected operating system. The disc will begin reinstalling the operating system to the hard drive without affecting personal files. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the repair installation. Step 5
Log in to Windows XP and sign on to the Internet when installation completes. Click "Start," "All Programs" and then "Windows Update." Step 6
Click "Scan for Updates" to search for applicable service packs and hotfixes to reinstall to the OS. Step 7
Click "Install Now" to bring the in-place upgrade up-to-date.
Things Needed
  • Windows XP CD

  • Make sure you have your Windows XP product key (found on the CD cover or on the computer case) available prior to reinstallation.

  • If possible, back up your files previous to the installation in case something goes awry during the process.
  • You will need to reinstall all non-native programs and removable devices after performing an in-place upgrade.

Hi, I believe you need to reinstall your operating system, follow these instruction:
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} To install new version of XP. Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing F1 button.. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall operating system.
Hope this helps

My computer loads bios when cool but cannot succefully load windows without freezing up.

First thing to try is reinstalling windows, it may just be your OS causing the problem, but there are many other factors if that is not the one. It could be your mobo, CPU, memory, power supply, etc. Try the OS reinstall first and if that does not solve the problem, try messing with the hardware.

Actually the first thing you might want to try is press F8 during POST and get the screen that has the options SAFE MODE, etc. One option should read "last known good configuration" etc. try loading windows througyh that option to see if it works.

try it again with the bootable floppy disk... if you have the option use fdisk /mbr and then format the computer and reinstall using the cd you have. the fdisk /mbr command will get rid of any virus residing in your master boot record.

Need restoring my operating system. I have several viruses Can yo help

Hi jtspecprod,

You can restore your os, however, I have to ask, not to be rude mind you, what is your level of expertise in DOS. The reason I ask is that fdisk is a DOS operation and you kinda need to know a little about DOS, not a lot, just a little. If you really do have several viruses, reinstalling your os or rolling your computer back through system restore will not get rid of the viruses, they like to embed themselves in things like HIMEM or worse, your BIOS. Hit me back on how technical I need to be to get you through this problem. If your infected really bad you may have to consider professional help in the form of a repairman. We have those resources here at through our repairman registry, then again, I just may be cheaper to get another computer. I know this isn't the news you wanted to hear, but it is my honest opinion.

Thanks for using

Sincerely, cyyyd7
