I have the same problem.

Only work around I found was installing Rockbox, then in the settings turning off the wheel light.

Seemed guessing cable issue?? once wheel light when out, the screen would come back.

My sansa fuze at times freezes. I do not know why,

When the blue ring is illuminated, first try the RESET for the Sansa Fuze.
The player should NOT be connected to any other device:
    1. Slide and hold the Power switch up for approximately 20 seconds.
    2. Release the Power switch.
    3. To turn the player on, slide the Power switch up then release instantly.

When a RESET won't work or the player freezes again, UPDATE the firmware on the player in 2 steps.
The player should NOT be connected to any other device:

    > step1: Enable MSC mode
    1. Turn device OFF: when the player is frozen first perform step 1 and 2
    of the RESET procedure:
    1. Slide and hold the Power switch up for approximately 20
    2. Release the Power switch.
    2. Slide the Hold switch down to Lock (orange colored dot showing).

    3. Press and hold the left button ( |<< ) while connecting the device to the PC.

    > step 2 : UPDATE the firmware
Use next page for updating the firmware on the player.
There are 2 methods for updating, for Windows operating system the
    updater ( method 1 ) should work:
Method 1; Use the Sansa Firmware Updater
Method 2: Use the update board / Sansa forum
Look in the Update page for the steps to follow.

If the light around the spinning wheel is blue and the screen is black, then Hold the on/off button up for about 10-20 seconds and it should turn off. then you can just turn it on again. I fit doesn't work, then just wait for the battery to die and charge it back up.

I was told that i could restart my sansa fuze with the restart buttom, but the problem is that my sansa fuze dont have a restart button

    this is work for you;
Press and hold the "Home" button while sliding the power switch on the slide up - not sure how long it'll take (less than 30 seconds) but with headphones on, you will hear a faint "pop" (similar to when you plug in headphones or turn it on with the ear buds in). You can then release both buttons and it should turn on. It will "refresh" it's media list, but you shouldn't lose any tunes loaded.
when Sansa Fuze freezes is hold up the power button for about 2O seconds. When this is done, release and it should say "Goodbye" on the screen. When you turn the Fuze back on it will take only a moment to refresh its memory. Try to wait if you are recording something important though, sometimes it will just start back up again, no harm done!

Wont turn on... balck screen... when i hooked it up to my computer nothing happened... tried the lock button, power button, and the wheel... still nothing

Hi, I just learned here that you have to do TWO things to get it to turn on. One, make sure the slider is in the On position. Then press and hold the play button (top one on the wheel) for 3 seconds. Worked for me, when previously the only way I could get it to turn on was to hook it up to a power source (wall or USB), which sounds slightly different than you. Hope it works anyway!

My Sandish Sanza ( 2gb) backlight screen is black

    Reset All
If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds.
This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation
    will be gone.....
IF that doesn't work try to the update software and install then lock your sansa hold in the rec key on the left at the same time push the menu/power button this will take you to recovery mode then connect to the computer Star the update software if it doesn't start automatic goto /start /all programs /Sandisk/sansa updater/ sansa updater and start it up manually... follow instructions on the updater and the sansa hope this works....
