The recommended link relates to installation errors with Windows XP SP3. I am attempting to just reformat and reload a PC back to it's original state. It powers off while booting off of the recovery CD. Have tried deleting the partition and recreating it and starting over. Have went into the BIOS and chose FACTORY DEFAULTS.

Partion of c and d for a 100 gb dell inspiron recomended portion

Why not just use the totals disk as one big partition? It's much easier and most times people fill up the c partition while the d partition sits there empty.

It would serve you better to have one big contiguous partition.

My 13 year old son laptop need be reset like new

There are a couple possible solutions to your problem. If the computer will still turn on and load windows, and I assume you are using Windows XP, you can try doing a system restore. To do this, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and select System Restore. If system restore is enabled, you should be able to choose a date in the past when the laptop was working properly and restore the computer to that date. If you want to completely reload windows, you will need a Windows XP installation disc. Load the disc in the CD or DVD player and reboot the computer. You should see a screen asking you to press any key to boot from CD, go ahead and press Enter. You will now enter setup where you can reformat the hard drive and reload windows XP. Follow the on-screen instructions to delete any old partitions, and then create a new partition and format it using NTFS. The windows XP installation will continue after the hard drive is formatted. If, when you reboot the computer with the installation disc in the drive, you are not prompted to boot from CD, you may need to reboot and press F2 or F12 to change the boot selection to the CD or DVD drive so it will load the CD first before it tries to load your original Windows installation.

Installed a rangeplus adapter on dell 1000 inspiron xp sp3 home

See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.

My 1200 will get as far as the XP screen, then it keeps restarting and never handing off the the windows system, can I do something on my own to repair this?

Due to Windows XP system restarting there's a possibility that you Hard Disk Partition has been remove. This partition called NTFS or FAT32.
Troubleshooting your Windows or repair are necessary you have Bootable XP Disc "Home Edition or Professional Edition".
If you backup your files into two partition like Drive C or Drive D, possible to recover from Drive D but Drive C i think not.
Reformat the Drive C or put Windows System.

Hi, I have lost the recovery cd for my dell inspiron 710 m

You can attempt to recover the system using the built-in recovery partition (if your system has one). Shut down the computer completely, and restart it with the power button. When the Dell logo appears, try pressing Ctrl-F11 or Alt-F11 at this screen, and if your system has the recovery partition, it should boot to it, and give you instructions on how to restore your system using this method. If this does not work, however, you can request Dell to send you replacement recovery disks for your model of computer by going *here* Just keep in mind Dell may charge for the disks, so if you do need to order them, be prepared to pay a minor fee, by using a credit card on their secured website. (Usually $20-40 USD)

Whatever the circumstances, be forewarned that restoring your system with either of these methods will erase the contents of your hard drive, so be sure to back up your important files that you cannot afford to lose *BEFORE* doing the restore, as you will not be able to get them back without advanced data recovery services, which can get extremely expensive.

First try a system repair with your operating system disc. If you have any issues during the repair, then reformat and reload the operating system.
