    I have the same problem and am looking for a certified repair shop in pittsburgh. The remote doesn't work, the system doesn't light up and the turntable doesn't work. I am wondering if I should just junk it as it has already been repaired once before.

Can I replace the speakers on this system? Speakers are too large for space & want to replace with another brand.

make sure impedance is the same so 6 ohms and the power rating of speakers is no less than 200 watts peak rms.And bare wire ports on back of speaker.
The power rating is so the speakers can handle the maximum power delivered by stereo amplifier without burning out speakers coils.

The EC16B24304 number above is a discontinued Alps part. I found an equivalent encoder from Taiwan Alpha available on Mouser.com, part number RE160F-40E3-20A-24P. It has the same footprint, shaft length and keying. It fits perfectly. It has a lower rotational force than the Alps encoder and 24 detents per rotation instead of a smooth feel, but it is perfectly acceptable. I just made this repair on my Aiwa CX-NA222 stereo, and I've got my volume control back!

I have an Aiwa stereo cd player that only plays certain cd's but not the new ones, it is model cs-na222

Some Aiwa players will not play burned, non-closed or expanded limit cds (CD of 700MB or overburned to 750MB).

When you say new cds do you mean purchased pressed cds or ones you created?

Unfortunately without seeing the actual needle or cartridge, it is just about impossible to provide you with a part number. Where are you located? Needles are still available and I sell them all the time. I will try to locate the "standard" part number for your model, but there were often different setups available. Is there any way to provide a photo of the one you have now?

Check the balance of the tonearm as well. If there is not sufficient pressure on the needle, it won't track the record correctly either. Please note, the you shouldn't put too much pressure or you will wear the record.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks,
Dan

Does not power up.

chuck05,

You might try to find a reset button on the back of the unit. Also, the Aiwa website may have a "support" staff that can see if they have an archived manual or tell you which buttons to push. Also, check to see if the unit has a fuse in back. Finally, check a website called audio.manualsonline.com . It's a free deal where people exchange manuals and information.

SX-1600 + KD-491F

Hi again,

It would seem that you posted the problem here also. With your kind permission, I will repost my excerpts of my responses that others may benefit on similar concerns.

A. Most current receivers no longer include a PHONO input. Perhaps what could be done is to purchase a phono to line level pre-amplifier to go along in your purchase for a new receiver.

I was made to understand that the Pioneer SX-1600 is prone to speaker output problems which could either be:
1. the speaker relay (protection); and/or
2. the amp, STK4191II Stereo Module.

Either should be relatively easy to work on and perhaps you can try the services of a locally available qualified electronic technician since the repairs would not be too specialized. The service manual may be of help (or at least a schematic , they may be downloaded from here and here).

B. To recap what you need is a receiver that can accommodate:
4 - Pioneer S-DF1-K (15-100W, 8 ohms)
1 - Pioneer PD-F407 25 Disc CD Player
1 - Pioneer CT-300 dual tape deck
1 - Kenwood KD-491F turntable

C. Possible choices are (keeping in mind that the power output should be less if not equal to 100 watts and a turntable/phono input):
i. Onkyo TX-8522 Stereo Receiver;
ii. Yamaha RX-397 100 Watt Natural Sound AM/FM Stereo Receiver;
iii. Sony STR DE695 AV receiver;
iv. Teac AG-790 200 Watt Stereo Receiver;
v. Denon AVR 888 - AV receiver - 7.1 channel.

Some of the above also includes feature(s) to hook up to your video system. Some may even require a fifth speaker (subwoofer).

Incidentally, you can also choose another brand/model even without a turntable/phono input. As initially posted, a turntable/phone to line level pre-amplifier is only required. Here are some examples:
a. XP200 Turntable Preamp - Nano Series;
b. Pyle® Pro PP999 Phono Preamplifier;
c. Pro-Ject Phono Box Turntable Preamplifier;
d. Radial J33 RIAA Turntable Preamp Direct Box

Good luck with your project.
