Try another DVD-RW drive because it sounds like the laser is going bad. Burning requires alot of power from the laser. Playing DVD or playing cd's doesn't require much so thats why it would play those.
According to the ACER Aspire 6920 specs, it does not have a Blue-ray player only DVD CD R/W drive. Therefore it cannot play blue-ray movie disks.
The specs of the DVD drive are as follows :- Optical Storage
TypeDVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - Integrated
CD / DVD read speed24x (CD) / 8x (DVD±R) / 6x (DVD±R DL)
CD / DVD write speed16x (CD) / 8x (DVD±R) / 4x (DVD±R DL)
CD / DVD rewrite speed16x (CD) / 6x (DVD-RW) / 8x (DVD+RW) / 5x (DVD-RAM)
Are you trying to burn a dvd? If so from the spec you gave in the problem description your drive will burn cds(CDRW) but will only play dvds(DVD). If it stated DVDRW then you would be able to burn DVDs as in the CDRW.
You may have what is called a combo drive...it can play and burn cds but can only play dvds, not burn them. Look at the face plate on the drive and see what is written on it. If it has the following: Recordable Drive = CD Burner DVD = DVD Player RW & DVD = DVD Burner
If recordable drive and DVD is on the drive but no RW, chances are its a combo drive. Keep us posted.
What is it doing. Are you trying to burn a dvd movie, what software are you using to try and burn it. If you are trying to burn a movie, you wont be able to unless you have the special programs to remove the copyrights and possible compress the video files to fit on the blank dvd. Most burning software wont allow buring of movies due to copyright reasons unless you do what i stated above.
hi .. sir go and try to open in safe mode . restart >press F8. see whether it work's..if not go to the bios setup and see the configuration and sellect . restart > delete . (for bios setup..). replay me if any problem.. thank u sie. don't forget to fix.
Assuming you have a dvd burner, do you have dvd decoder software or dvd burning software installed? Does it read burned dvds?
Are you sure it's a dvd burner? If so, make sure the blank dvds you are using are the proper format ie; dvd+/-rw, etc.
