Ok..i had this camera for 2 months now, but since the start the flash wasn`t working properly...when it`s dark and i want to take a picture using flash, of course, many times (not all the times) the pictures are dark altough i use the flash. or if it works, it might just as well turn out with too much light in them. i`m going to go to the store from where i bought it and see maybe they can do something, but meanwhile , what do you think could be the problem?

I fixed this same problem with my D70s today, after twelve months of getting dark pictures despite the flash firing. It started syncing properly after I performed the following, though I'm not sure why as I was just mucking around.
- Set Program to P.
- Push button to activate built-in flash.
- Push, and keep depressed same button, which will put you in Flash Exposure Compensation mode.
- My Flash Exposure Compensation was on +0.3 so I set it to 0.0 by turning the front wheel.
Seemed to fix it.
Have you tried to reset the camera to the factory defaults? To do this: have the camera in shooting mode - go to Menu - left arrow to reset - press ok - Highlight Yes and press ok. This will reset the camera to factory settings. See if flash works now.
Press Menu button togle across from REC Mode to setup togle down thrice from camera to setup 1 togle across into sub menu togle down from four times to Initialize togle across again to the sub-menu togle up from cancel to OK press center button to accept the OK choice Screen changes and so press okay again It should restart the camera Opening on the 'Clock Set' screen togle down to cancel and use the camera and make sure that you have the camera to flash, if it works try again in the Auto function. If it is still not working do not worry follow the steps again two or three more times, As this is generally a software error message and not a hardware malfunction. If it is working then don't forget to set your Clock.
same problem, exact same camera... I had fixed it already with a guy who fixes all kinds of cameras and he had to change a piece that wasn´t working, but after a few months the problem started again...
in order to repair your camera the IC851 is to be replaced. This integrated circuit is used for flash control.
Please do not try to fix it yourself. Contact your nearest Authorized Sony Service.

please insert a new pair of batteries and check weather the camera starts in proper manner. does the flash charges. normally even if the camera operates and switches on in proper manner but if there is any problem in the flash section the flash does not fires or do not charge. and if there is a short circuit in the flash section that will result in warming and consuming up the batteries in no time. the heatin of the batteries itself indicates that there is a short curcuit in the camera.
