Question about Sirius Starmate ST2 Satellite Radio Receiver

3 Answers

I have a new, old stock, sirius receiver st2 that i just hooked up. The signal strength goes up and down cutting out the broadcast. My last st2 worked fine, with the same power cord and antenna locations. Any idea what it could be? Read somewhere that it could be related to the ID number and sirius signal and ter signal.

I have the same problem. I had this old radio for years and never activated it. I finally activated last week for xmas and it's been going from 3 bars to 1 bar and losing signal every 5 seconds or so. Do you think they are doing this on purpose to make you buy a new radio?

I have the exact same situation. My old ST2 worked fine. Bought one new one and had the signal problem. Thought it was the receiver so I returned it for another new one from a different source. But it does the same thing. Tech support at Sirius was zero help.

IF any of you still have these Radios Sirius recently solved this problem they REFUSE to admit to. They launched a new satellite and if you guys hook them up for few hours the radio will receive 2 firmware updates that will correct this problem. Hook you radios up and let them run. After a few hours power cycle the radio. You should see the radio power on and immediately to to Sirius updating........ This updating takes a minute or so. Then leave your radio on for an additional 6 hours or so to receive the final update. The radio will do the same Sirius updating.... then it will update your channels and on channel 184 you should see when its done 00180002 displayed on channel 184 when you power the unit on. Seeing this displayed will confirm that the radio is updated and will now work properly.

The newer units have a weaker FM transmission. It should have come with an antenna extender that you have to run to the antenna.

I have a sirius starmate st2 and it goes on but won't stay on and just turns itself off. Is there any way to repair this?

Your power jack needs to be replaced. You can buy a repair service on eBay. You'll need a new power jack if you'd like to repair it yourself, which you'd need to take from another radio.

Brand new radio that the songs cut in and out all the time. Haved tried two different anttenas both do the same! Any sugestions

Your antenna needs to face a Northwest position to achieve a good signal if it is used for home use. Also any type of blockage such as trees,buildings,hills..etc will cause this while using it in a vehicle. Roof racks and vehicle compasses will also cause this if the antenna is mounted too close to either of them.

Do you have a thicker audio cable you can use? It might cut down on the interference that way.

Try replacing the antenna with a new one. There could be something going on with the wiring in there.

SIRIUS Sportster "Acquiring Signal"

Let me save you $30.00. A new antenna will not help, nor will cleaning the contacts. I just did both of those and it did not help. I have mine in the freezer right now cooling it down. Sirius told me that I should not leave it in the car because it gets to hot. They told me to buy another unit....
