The 1st thing to try is to make sure that the outlet you are plugged into has power. Try plugging in a lamp or fan or something and ensure that it powers on.
2nd some power packs have a seperate power cord from the power pack that may come loose ensure that it is plugged in tight if you have this model of power pack
3rd is to check the power pack you are using. The easiest way to do this is with a volt meter if you have one. They output in DC so ensure that you have it set to DC on the dial. If you do not have a volt meter check if there are any lights on the power pack that should light up when it is plugged in. If there are no lights on the power pack then there is not much of a way to check the power pack without a volt meter.
The last thing it could be would be the charging or power circuit of the motherboard. This would only be able to be diagnosed by a certified repair technician. If the laptop is still under warranty you will want to contact HP to have this checked.

test the power cord+ outlet for faulty with multimeter. However if this things are o.k You must test the power supply pack for faulty, test the 5 vdc+12vdc, etc and see if there are Faulty. and replace. Please tight cable or connector inside. Test too the small battery for CMOS for +3vdc and replace.

God bless you

A couple of weeks ago, my HP Pavilion a706n was working completely fine. Soon enough, the first error appeared. I could use it for a good 5-10 minutes and it would shut off by itself. When I attempted to...

If you have cleaned out the dust with compressed air, then I suggest you look at the processor cooling. Is the fan running up to speed? Is the heat sink tightly in place on the processor? Feel the fins of the processor heat sink when you power it up and if they get hot your processor is most likely over heating and shutting down. If all is well at the processor, check the power supply fan to see if it is running and the only other suggestion is to try another power supply. Dust is your worst enemy in a computer.

I bought my HP Pavilion dv5 about 3 months ago. On the keypad you have to forcefully push it down if you don't use it within a period of time and the mouse pointer works after that. I was wondering if I...

I have an HP dv5 as well, for about 2 years now. After about a year, I started having problems with the mouse keypad. The left button would work intermittently. I eventually figured out that these mouse buttons aren't designed for heavy use. It's best to use an external mouse. I ended up buying a replacement part off of eBay and installing it (which was a major pain--you have to take apart most of the laptop to get it installed). I'm not sure if the problem you have is related. Was there any impact to the laptop at all that might have loosened something up inside?
