Question about DeLonghi Esclusivo Magnifica ESAM3300 Espresso Machine

Delonghi EAM 3400 keeps saying "Empty Grounds Container"

I cant get it to change from saying "Empty Grounds Container." I have emptied the container and then put it back into the machine but regardless of what I do, it just keeps saying to empty it.

Is there anyway to get rid of this? Is there something that I need to clean besides the container? Is there anyway of resetting the machine?

I think the microswitch that sensors the front door is not activated. Try to find it and "give it a massage" The machine resets the counter for the grounds container every time the door switch is activated.

There is no microswitch in the front door of the DeLonghi 3400 and there is no microswitch that is touched by the little plastic piece on the bottom tray. The microswitch is at the back of the grounds container. The other answers were helpful in getting me to look in the right place but the only microswitch was where the plastic tab at the back of the grounds container go through a hole in the back.
I took the bottom off (good luck in finding a screwdriver or bit to remove the screws) unplugged the microswitch and cleaned it up and it worked for a while. I'm ordering the $8 microswitch and hoping everything works with no problems.

The water tray sensor microswitch was stuck. Therefore the machine thought you had never removed the tray to empty ground. To fix:

  • Unplug the machine from power for safety.
  • There is a little plastic tab at the back middle of water tray sticking out next to the ground container tray. Slowly insert the water tray and observe this tab poking into a square hole near the bottom of the machine. That's where the sensor is.
  • Use a cotton bud (or a few) to clean the inside of this hole, especially the upper side where the sensor is.
  • If you insert the tray all the way in and hear a click, the sensor is cleaned. Close the door, plug machine into power and enjoy your coffee again.

Good luck

Descale eam3400 delonghi magnifica machine

Hi, you need to select descale procedure from menu options and then add descale solution usually 100-125ml to 1l of water to your tank. Also you should find this how to do in instruction manual.

Grounds container indicator light stays on, grounds container is in place

I have the same problem as this after cleaning. The machine won't power on. It does a power on self test and then the grounds tray full or missing light comes on and nothing else can be done.

A friend of mine with a similar machine says hers fixed itself after a while so assume some sensor got jammed/obscured with my over zealous cleaning. However I'm not hopeful. Might try taking it apart.

How to discale the unit

Delonghi EAM, ESAM, ECAM, Nespresso

Over time, the continuous heating up of the water used to make the coffee leads to lime scale building up in
the inner circuits of the appliance.
When the appliance displays the message:
DESCALE
you should perform the descale cycle.
Proceed as follows:
• make sure the appliance is ready.
• press the button (the light over the button comes on) then press the button repeatedly until
the appliance displays:
DESCALE No
• Press and the appliance displays the message:
DESCALE Yes
• Press the button to start the descale programme.
• Empty the water tank and add the contents of one bottle (125 ml) of DURGOL descaler plus
one litre of water. For subsequent descaling, use descaler of the same type and brand as supplied
(available from technical service centres authorised by the manufacturer).
• attach the water spout to the nozzle;
• place a container with a minimum capacity of 1.5 litres under the hot water spout (Fig. 3);
• press the button. Descaler runs off from the hot water spout into the container below. The appliance
displays:
APPLIANCE IN DESCALE
• the descale programme automatically performs a series of run offs and pauses to remove lime scale
deposits from inside the coffee maker.
• After about 30 minutes, the appliance displays:
RINSING FILL TANK
The appliance must now be rinsed through to eliminate residues of descaling solution from inside the appliance.
Proceed as follows:
• empty the water tank, rinse and fill with clean water.
• Reposition the tank.
• Empty the full container and then put it back under the hot water spout.
• Press the OK button. Hot water is run off from the spout into the container below and the appliance displays:
RINSING
• When the water tank is empty, the appliance displays the message:
RISRINSING COMPLETE PRESS OK
• Press the OK button and refill the water tank with clean water.
• The descale programme is now terminated and the appliance is ready to make coffee again.
NOTE: if the descaling cycle is interrupted before completion, the appliance continues to display the descale
message and the programme must be started again from the beginning. Empty the water tank, rinse, fill with
clean water and run off a cup of hot water.
IMPORTANT: FAILURE TO DESCALE THE APPLIANCE REGULARLY INVALIDATES THE GUARANTEE.

Delonghi Magnifica Light B12 in manual states that

I had a problem where the machine would not operate and the water and grounds lights were on steady (red). After contacting customer support, they directed me to do a reset. This is done by disconnecting the power and holding down the ground coffee and decalcification buttons while reconnecting power. Then release the buttons and power on the unit. This revived my Magnifica from the dead, maybe it will work for you...
