There is paper jammed in the machine or something is blocking the sensor for the paper path.

Remove the obstruction (try a vacuum cleaner nozzle down the feed path) and the machine should be right again

OK I had the hp error code 0xc18a0001 problem and here is the conversation I had with the tech...
James Cowan: HP error code 0xc18a0001
Earnest: I will assist you in this regard. I understand that a error code with 0xc18a0001 with "Ink System failure" is displayed on the front panel of the All-In-One printer. Am I correct?
James Cowan: Correct
Earnest: May I have the model number of All-In-One you are using?

Message: clear paper jam then press enter

    Do the steps in this document first;

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00219180&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&rule=22243&product=391182

If they don't work than there can be an internal error with the printer itself. You may have to try and do a reset on the unit.Perform a partial reset on the printer. To do this first remove the power supply from the back of the printer. With the power off press and hold the # and 6 keys. Plug the power back into the printer, keep holding the # and 6 keys till you see “Semi-Full Reset ” displayed on the printer screen.

    Carriage jam

Try this (it may not work) -
Perform a Semi-full Reset on the unit by following the steps below:
    1. Make sure that the unit is on, and disconnect the power cord from the back of the unit.
    2. On the unit keypad press the # and the 6 keys simultaneously and hold both keys down while plugging in the power cord.
    3. The Semi-full Reset message will appear on the unit display.
Wait until the unit initialization process is complete. The unit will have recovered its original settings.

I've had this error before and had no obvious fault with the carriage (it moved freely and the encoder strip was in place) i managed to clear the error by stripping the printer down and cleaning around the service station area

    Canon mp 130 paper jamed

    Step1
Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.
    Step
    2
    Turn off the printer.
    Step
    3
Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
    Step
    4
Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
    Step
    5
If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.
    Step
    6
If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
    Step
    7
If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though.
    Step
    8
Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
    Step
    9
If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
