Question about Sony Handycam HDR-SR1 HD Camcorder

Is it possible to undelete files on a Sony HDR-SR1 Camcorder?

I accidentally deleted several video files on the camcorder using the camera's built in delete feature.

I can view the files on the hard drive using its USB connection. I'm wondering if there is a way to undelete the videos by using a software utility.

The answer is YES. Power off your camcorder, take the memory card or hard drive out of your cam, and connect it to your computer as it should appear as a "Removable Drive" or put the card in a card reader attached to your PC.

Then install this software Wondershare Photo Recovery (recover videos and audio files too) on your computer. Then start to scan and see if your deleted files can be got back. Get the program from:

For Windows Version
For Mac version

Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your camcoder(card or disk) until you can recover your files safely! Regards

First of all, stop using the camera immediately, so that the deleted files' space will not be overwritten.

Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Computer.

Follow this step by step information for deleted files from camcorder

Hope this helps.

If you can see the files STOP USING THE CAMERA NOW until the files are recovered. The more you use it, the more likeley it will overwrite the space used by the deleted files. Go to www.runtime.org. Look at their GetDataBack utilities. You will need to determine whether the camera's HD used FAT32 or NTFS (FAT32 is most likeley.) Download and install the demo version of the correct product. READ the documentation and tutorials. If it can see the deleted file and it shows a good chance of recovery BUY the product and then salvage your deleted files.

Hi,
You need to format camcorder hard drive through Format option in camcorder menu itself.
Please check camcorder menu and hard drive section for Format option, this will delete all files on hard drive and solve your problem.
Thanks.

I have a Sony HDR-SR1 with video on the hard drive. When I connect it to my iMac via as USB cable, I can see the camera on my desktop, but can't seem to import anything via IMovie. What am I doing...

It is a Hard Disk type Camcorder. Follow the steps as mentioned on the Link given below to transfer the video from the Camcorder to a Mac Computer.

NOTE: Movie player applications must support MPEG-2 for standard-definition video or AVCHD for high-definition video to open and play these files. Refer to the software manufacturer of the movie player application you are using for additional information and any available updates.

The Apple Macintosh Web site offers MPEG2 Works 4 Advanced 4.2 for download.

The Apple Macintosh Web site has an MPEG-2 Playback component for Quicktime 6 or 7 available for purchase.

Troubleshooting information about importing MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 clips with Apple iMovie software is available on the Apple Macintosh Web site.

For the Apple Mac OS X operating system, DVD authoring software (Capty DVD/VCD 2 ) and MPEG editing software (Capty MPEG Edit EX) is available for purchase from the PIXELA Web site. These applications are for standard-definition video only.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
