If you are trying to use a combination of wall switch and pull chain control, the simple logic in the receiver can't figure out what to do. Try disconnecting all fan power at the source, removing and reinstalling the remote battery, restoring power, and trying all combinations of switch settings and power off - power on operation until you get results (or give up).

Inspiron 1521 will not power up

I'd say that you have exhausted your options. You can try to isolate the power on problem by removing your your memory modules, hard disk drive and see if it at least stays powered on. Here is a link from Dell for your laptop's manual:

I have a three wire switch blue+black+red for the light on my ceiling fan need to know how to hook it up to turn the light on and off have four lights used to be five but took one out cause the fixture was...

Make sure the power is off.
Connect ALL White wires together -- from the ceiling box, the fan and the lights.
Connect the Black wire from the switch to the Black wire in the ceiling box.
Connect the Red wire to the Black wire on the Fan. That should activate on the first pull
Connect the Blue wire to the 4 black wires coming from the lights. That should activate on the second pull.
The third pull should activate both. To change the order, swap the connections to the Red and Blue wires.

Won't boot. Power light on, No Video Signal message

It's also possible that your operating system has become corrupted. See if there is enough time to boot into safe mode, or choose a boot option to go into the recovery partition.

Have you made any recent hardware or software modifications?
