You can download the printer software/driver that you need from this link, just click HERE and select the operating system of your computer and proceed with the download.

HP.com and download the HP Universal pcl 5 driver. That should get you going. That printer is so old that HP no longer made drivers for it specifically so you will need to use the universal driver.

Click here to download the drivers for from Official HP Support Site. Select the Operating System you have on your laptop and download the drivers

This sounds like a main Formatter board Problem.
For a possible solution follow the posted link below.
The printer is attempting to initialize itself and cannot.

just go to www.hp.com go to support. then search or use the selector to get to the 6l support page. On that page you can download the install and drivers cds as well as the manuals.

You can also order the drivers on cd but these are not free.

Windows 7 print driver available
LaserJet model specific printer drivers are currently available within the Windows 7 operating system. Installation of these drivers can be performed via Devices and Printers , formerly known as the Add Printer Wizard . NOTE: If the model specific driver that you are looking for does not appear in the list of available printers, clicking the Windows Update button underneath the list of available printers may provide additional drivers to choose from. Requires opt-in to Microsoft Windows Update and internet connection.

go to the HP website, and search for the driver for your model printer. once installed should be able to recognize your printer. Also make sure you dont plug in your usb from the printer to the computer until after u install the driver.

i lost my driver cd of l6 laser jet,
