New 250gb hd for inspiron 6000, not recognizing os
Everything loaded on hd and ran for a few days, then just a black screen. I reloaded my os, re-seated memory, harddrive and ran a system check, all good. It happened again. I then heard that the bios (which was up-to-date) will function properly with a hd greater 160gb. Any truth? I needed the bigger hd, but not if I have to reload my os every 3-5 days.

Make sure your memory is securely installed. please check
Personally i don't believe you needed the bigger hard drive.
Restart and go into bios setup once in set to default settings
then f10 to save and exit.

go to your device manager under xp its right lcick my computer-properties-devicemanger. check on the bottom your usb settings if there is a red or yellow marking you may need to re-install your chipset drivers. or download generic usb generic drivers. let me know if this helps
I dont think we can use a hard disk of 160gb in an inspiron 6000. and make sure you bought a ATA hard drive and not a SATA drive.
For the Western digital try to reinstall XP and install the device drivers before installing application s/w.
Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the support.dell.com so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.
