My ce 2100 doesnt work anymore.. i plug it in and at shows a battery bar charging for a few minutes then the screen goes blank and i can turn it on or even charge it again can i change the battery?

yes. Once you plug it in it should automatically start charging. If the screen goes blank leave it for about 15 min. Unplug it and start it to see if it has charge. I hope this solution has been helpful.

My songs go to files and I got locked out.

This player was manufactured in the pre-DRM era. As soon as you plug it into the computer now, all of the songs are now read as files that should be copy-protected, but do not have the new DRM encryption on them. All of your precious songs will have to be re-downloaded - annoying, I know. It happened to me also.

My Rio turns off mid-song

I would recommend wiping your player:

Windows only.... Please post if you are not using windows...

Open My Computer with your Rio plugged in.
Right click on your Rio carbon and click on format.
Leave the default values - if it asks you something then use your initiative.
Then click on format.
Then when it has finished formatting go to your firmware (can be downloaded from:
Follow the instructions and then it should load the firmware onto your player.
When it has done then your player should (in theory!) work properly.

Hope this helps

Player spontaneously shuts off (battery is charged!)

Hi. I recommend a firmware upgrade. You can obtain this by doing the following: 1) Connect the player to your computer with the USB cable. 2) Wait for "idle" to be displayed on the player screen. 3) Double-click the file that you downloaded from the Rio website. The update should take approximately 30 seconds to load. and here is the link for your firmware upgrade file. Good Luck

No screen

I am sorry, but I cannot help you fix your mp3 player. The reason being I have the same model of Rio mp3 player, and the same exact problem.
I can't figure out what to do, so I may just buy an ipod. They tend to have more solutions for their problems, if you know what I mean.

I am sorry I cannot help.
Have a good day!

My rio used to say upgrator and now its not turning on at all.

I think when you hit the on/off power button (on top near outlet for headphones) AND hit the menu button (on side below volume dial) at same puts the Rio CE2100 into "Upgrader" mode aka "Recovery" mode. From what I've found online, basically, the firmware to the device is deleted. Trying to reinstall firmware, or reflash the device is nearly impossible. The tiny hole near the earphones is for resetting the device--use a needle (about the only thing that will fit-ouch)...but that only lets you turn it on/off if u get stuck. The tiny hole on face near display is where audio recording mic WOULD be if Rio CE2100 had one. If ANYONE knows how to escape "Recovery mode" or "Upgrader" mode please share. This is a common final result for many owners of this otherwise great mp3 player. There is some notation in online help site that says ce2100 requires 500mA from USB and says u can go to Device manager, check ur USB Root Hub, check Power tab to see how much power is being supplied to the device. Mine said 100mA, and doesn't work...but I don't know how to resolve this. =) Maybe tomorrow...or just wait for sales post-christmas. =)

RIO ce2100

Try this and let me know if it works: Plug the player into the computer (by the USB cable obviously), open your Rio Music Manager, go to "Tools", "Synchronization options". Then create a "synchronization profile" as instructed. As you progress through the instructions, your second preferrence to edit is called "content deletion". This is where you can tell your player to NEVER delete your music. (Choose "never" from the dropdown menu). Then follow the rest of the steps, answering the other questions as you prefer. Hopefully this will prevent your player from losing songs you've already downloaded.
