no it does not turn on only does above, no screen activity at all not even a flash.

  • steveoo Dec 20, 2008

    ok start again!!

there is no activity on this ds except for.....

when you insert the battery the green light comes on and goes between dim to bright about 1 and 1/2 seconds apart the ticking / clicking sound is each time the green light gets brighter ( more power click ge it) f2 fuse was changed as susupect f1been checked and is ok. its like it wants to start up and then dim light then start up again, i can not explain this any other way...

not dropped not damaged. connections on f2 fuse checked lights of any type would not come on if this was not so..

thanks for all your comments so far keep them coming though.

L2 is there and seems to be ok.

I have exactly the same problem. The thick from the speakers arrent from water damage. I can assure that. The F1 and F2 are also a working.

And if it is the L2 where can i find such a part?

  • Anonymous Dec 30, 2008

Are you all where using a r4 cart that might be the problem have 2 of them also both used r4 carts (maybe virus)

i checked them both cant find anything broken or dammaged

Why did you need new fuses?
Did you drop or whack it hard at some point, hard enough to crack or disfigure the case?

  • DeathChain01 May 11, 2010

Why is a "tick" sound from the speakers bad?
I don't see the problem here.
Or does it not turn on as well?

The fuses may not be the problem here. You may have hit something and didn't know it, or somehow water got inside it. But I think you have a short someplace, or a loose circuit. Where I do not know. You might want to go and get a DS that is being sold for parts because there is a bad screen, and you can take the main board from that, and replace yours with it. I say this, instead of purchasing a whole new DS, because broken ones go for about 20$ on eBay, unlike their functional counterparts that go for 110$ or so.

Check if "L2" is in place. Ususally drop from its position in the circuit board near the power switch, is a little black piece with solder in 2 sides. And the symptoms are almost the same as the blown F1 and F2 fuses.

If you opened your DS and didnt found it or wasnt aware and lost it you'll need a parts circuit board to take it from and solder it to your board, as theres no known part specification or schematics for the DS, at least as I know the only way is using a Henry meter to get the L2 value.

And you might have a water damaged board or broken top screen ribbon cable too as for the tick sound from the speaker is new for me.

Sounds like you need to send it in for repair. I had sent my console to VideoGame911.com and they repaired mine at a great cost and got it back at the end of the week. Give them a try, they are cheaper than a manufacturer. Good luck!

DS Lite fuse replacement F1 F2

Hi,

Does your DS lite refuse to charge?
Does the orange charge light not come on at all?
Has your DS stopped switching on with no green light at all?
Well this is the guide for you.

Remove the DS lites base plate (for a guide on how to do this see my other tips and tricks) and locate F1 and F2 (see pics)
89ce790.jpg
ab3386b.jpg
F1- Charging fuse. Change this one if you have the following issue:
Orange light doesn't come on at all when the charger is inserted and a battery connected.

F2- Console power fuse. Change this one if you have the following issue:
The DS lite console charges but refuses to power on.

If you find that the DS lite console neither charges or switches on i.e. no lights come on, not even for a brief time you can replace both fuses and it "should" resolve the issues, however, I cannot guarantee this as there could be other factors for the lack of power e.g. water damage.

To change a fuse you need to first remove the old one, do this by desoldering either side of itand remove it from the board.

Putting the new fuse on is a little trickier, you will need to hold the fuse in place with a small enough item that will not get in the way ofthe soldering process such as a cocktail stick or tweezers. Solder either side of the fuse to the board taking care not to make a bridge* with the solder. Give your newly laid fuse a test to be sure you have done it correctly, put the DS lite back together and then your done.

*Bridge - A solid connection made over or around the fuse thus bypassing it.

I hope this helps and I have to say that I take no responsability for any damage that may occur whilst following my tips/ guides.

DS Lite stopped working. Green/Orange light Flicker On then Off.

Hi,

Has your DS lite stopped working? does the green/orange light momentarily stay on? Here are a few tips to help you on your way to repairing your DS lite.

These are the three top reasons for the above faults:

1) One of the screens is either not correctly connected or has devlouped a fault... If one of the screens flickers after you switch it on and just before the green light goes out then the screen that doesn't flicker is causing the problem, firstly try reconnecting it and if that doesn't work you will have to replace it, both screens are avaliable for a reasonable fee on ebay, search for either "DS lite top screen" or DS lite bottom screen".
(if you need help with replacing the screens check out my other tips and tricks I have issued on here).

2) Locate the inductor labled "L2" if this is missing then you will need to either solder it back on if you can find it or else you can buy another one again on ebay for a reasonable fee, search for "DS lite L2".

3) If both the above fail then chances are you have blown a fuse, if you can charge the DS then it is not your "F1" fuse in which case you will only need to replace the "F2" fuse, firstly desolder the old fuse and then solder on the replacement fuse, this should solve the issue. If however the charging light stays on for a very brief time (i.e 1-2secs) then you will have to replace the "F1" fuse, locate the "F1" fuse and follow the sames steps stated for the "F2" fuse. These fuses are also found on ebay, search for "ds lite fuse" and buy the quantity you require.

If you don't have access to soldering equipment or are unable to solder these very small parts (i.e fuse dimensions - 1.5 mm x 0.8 mm and the "L2" inductor dimensions - 2.5mm x 1.8mm x 1.8mm) The is a product called wire glue which is avaliable from ebay (located in the USA) which is fantastic as it is a glue with conductive properties.

You may find guides that tell you to "bridge" the fuses and "L2" inductor but I would strongly advise against this, afterall they are there for a reason and just think what damage would have happend if that fuse hadn't have blown.

Here is an image for the location of the fuses, also if you look just under the power switch you will see the "L2" inductor:

I hope this helps and have to say that I accept no responsability for any damage that may occur to your DS lite when following these tips.

I turn My nintendo DS lite on and it shuts off instantly.

This sounds like the fuses on the logicboard have blown, you will have to take the back cover off to to have a look at the logicboard, the fuses are very small, you will need good soldering skills to replace them. here is a diagram of the logicboard and where the fuses are situated, they are marked F1 and F2:f898906.gif

Could you post back and tell me if the screens come on at all, if they do it might be your battery.

Screens stay black, power lite is solid green

does it make the boot up sound? if so its a fault with your screen..can replace screens for £7.50 off ebay. try re- inserting ribbon cable for screen b4 buying new screen tho (could be that). if you can't hear bootup sound when powering up then something else wrong. maybe F1 or F2 fuse blown (test with a multi meter) look on youtube for tutorial

DS Light Power Problem

sklind2,

You have a defective screen (probably the upper). Replace it with a new one or send it to Nintendo for repair.

Mr. Teacake,

Never...never..put a wet cartridge in the DS Lite. Even when it is left to dry. Water is funnest for avery electronic device. You made for almost 99% certain a short circuit and blown out the microfuse (F1 or F2) on the mainboard. It could be much worse but check F1 & F2 first. See Google for their locations
