Question about Compaq Presario V6310US Notebook

I cannot enable my wireless adapter

My system is not detecting Broadcom 802.11 wireless adapter in my HP Pavillion dv7-1137US Entertainment Notebook PC series laptop. I am running windows vista ultimate and it was working great till I installed SP1. It's no where and It's not even listed as Unknown Device. I tried HP recovery manager to reinstall hardware drivers but it didn't help. I tried to add it using Add new hardware wizard but I didn't see the device in list. I did try to use the HP wireless assistant but it won't enable and again it is listed. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance.
Looks like I have the same problem. Vista SP1 was installed today, and WiFi stopped working. The LED for WiFi is red regardless of how I move the switch, the device manager does not even see the Network adapter. Windows Updates lists an updated driver, but when I try to install that driver I get a "Windows Update Error 800f020b" which means that I cannot update a driver for a device that is not connected. So I am in a catch-22 - I cannot update the driver because the device is not visible, and the device is apparently not visible because SP1 messed it up... Any solution would be appreciated. Perhaps I'll try uninstalling SP1 next.

I have not tried uninstalling SP1. Instead I found that HP/Compaq has a "recall" on my laptop model and broken WiFi is one of the symptoms they cover. Apparently the laptop runs too hot and things break in it. They will fix it for me for free (even though it's out of the warranty). The preventive measure is a BIOS update to keep the cooling fan on at low speed all the time.

Who did you talk to for getting the repair done out of warranty? I am having the same problem with the XP version- it was there and worked great one day and the next day (after the updates) it was gone- vanished into thin air.
I did the same steps as you did and finally found it listed in the hidden devices but was unable to disable and enable or roll back drivers to make it come back.
I know it ran too hot and was very careful with it because of that- it sounds like the same problem you had- I am having too.
Thank you for any helping advice you could give to find a solution.

My suggestion would be to uninstall SP1 if the wireless driver update does not work and wait until a later time to reinstall SP1 since it is apparent the problem occurred with the SP1 update. I'm surprised the HP Recovery didn't resolve it - unless it wasn't taken back to to Factory Default - which would be extreme as you would loose all data, software and updates.

My system is not detecting my broadcom network adapter 802.11 b/g WLAN

Is this a new installation or an existing adapter?

If new, make sure it's seated correctly in the pci slot.

When you plug the network cable in does the light on the adapter come on? If not, then your adapter is dead and it's going to need replaced.
