Question about Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player

4 Answers

Sony BDP-S300 I have had my Blu Ray player for about a year now, and have purchased several Blu Ray discs. Just recently I purchased two new movies and neither of them have worked. I returned the discs, b/c I thought they were the problem. But still with the new discs the player will not play them. One of the movies will just flash loading on the screen for hours, and never make it to the main menu. The other will make it to the main menu and play most of the extras, but will not play the actual movie. Any thoughts??

Yes, all of the other discs I have purchased still work on the player.

I have tried several other dvds/blu rays and they will play. There are just two in my collection that will not play.

These are two brand new Blu Rays I purchased. This problem does not follow other movies, so I don't think it could be the lens, could it? This has really got me.

Clearly it was not a lens problem, let us know if you fixed the unit.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I was made to understand that the initial versions/batch of Sony BDP-S300 has certain limitations/restrictions on the initial firmware. It can not play BD -R & BD -RE discs. Reference p.6 of the manual. However, this was corrected in subsequent firmware updates. Pls check the two new discs. Additionally, if the new discs does not have the AACS flags or thenecessary watermarks then many of the BD players won't play it including the BDP-S300.

Of course if you can update the firmware, then most likely the restrictions and limitations would no longer be there.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

I'm thinking the player picked up some dirt on a sensor. I would get a can of compressed air and give a few good shots. You don't want to take it apart as it should still be under warantee. If that doesn't work, sen it in for repair. good luck, I'll look and see if there are any specific problems that can be addressed in some other way, but try that first

I just noticed that the two are the only ones that aren't playing, did someone burn them for you or copy them, that will do it, a bad burn will turn a disk into a coaster.

Hi, do other dvds / blue ray movies work on the player? try to clean the lens.
Heres a cleaner http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-BR-LC-Blu-ray-Lens-Cleaner/dp/B00178HN0O

There maybe a problem with the lens but start with the cleaner and report back.

OK, I don't know why the two discs didn't work, possibly becouse of copy protection or region code? Try something else. Also the cleaner maybe helpful to have in anycase.

Have purchased Terminator Salvation and 2012 on bluray, both Sony discs, they load and go to menu screen, however the icons to allow you to play or scene select etc do not appear, menu just plays over and...

Most likely you need to 'flash' (update) your BDP-S300's firmware. I had the same issue while trying to play AVTR in my BDP-S300. I downloaded Sony's latest firmware update, burned it to disc and popped the disc into the player... It takes 5-10 minutes for the 'flashing' to take place. AVTR now works in my player... Had to do this with one other Blu-ray movie about 18 months ago also.

Download the latest firmware version for the BDP-S300 here...

Crank 2 will not play in Sony S350

The software updates for your Sony BDP-S350 can be found at their website here. You will need to download the file, burn it to a disc and then load the disc into your player to upgrade its software to play your new blu-ray movie.

I hope that helps.
