How to disconnect the ribbon cable when changing a Nintendo DS co

I am changing the cover on an original Nintendo DS (not the Lite) and there is a ribbon cable from the top screen to the motherboard. I was told this comes off, but nobody knows how or what part comes off. Please help if possible. My young daughter is devastated that her DS is broken and I can't afford to by a whole new one.

Taking cover off nintendo ds lite

Are you talking about the back cover or front cover?
Either way, before starting you are going to need two things: A tri-wing screwdriver and a Philips screwdriver.

To remove the BOTTOM COVER, you must take off the stickers covering the screws and remove the screws. 001e10e1-317e-4bb5-97cd-230a82f77aaf.jpg
Then, carefully pry the back off, revealing the motherboard inside.

To remove the TOP COVER, you must take off the stickers covering the four screws in the corners of the INSIDE top screen. Unscrew them and gently push the inside top screen down until its about half a centimeter apart from it's backside. Then pull the backside off and you have it open.

If you wanted to open the DS completely, like have it in half, you should first open the BOTTOM COVER and remove the motherboard after disconnecting it from everything attached to it. Then follow the steps given for removing the TOP COVER and slide the ribbon and cables sticking through from the TOP to the BOTTOM back to the TOP so that they are not sticking through and won't be damaged when you take the DS apart. Then unscrew the power light and voila! The DS should be separated.

If you want to buy a Nintendo screwdriver and work patiently, this is an easy fix.
One of your ribbon cables is being pulled out or is not connecting when you open your DS.
If you go to www.powergamingparts.com you can find manuals to assist you in opening the DS and where to locate the "clips" that you will need to tighten.
If you need any further assistance contact me.

My ds lite images on the top screen flickering.

Open up the DS and then unseat and reseat the ribbon cable that goes to the screen.

Once you do that, turn on the DS and if the screen is still flickering then the screen will need to be replaced.

Here is a tutorial on how to open up the DS and what the ribbon cable looks like:

Top screen, it may be in wiring

The ribbon cable which connects the top screen to the base of your ds is probably cracked or has a split in it. With an original ds you can just replace the cable but on a ds lite you have to replace the whole of the top screen if the cable is broken. If you are feeling adventurous and don't mind voiding your warranty then you can buy a screwdriver from http://www.whitedog.co.uk/catalog/nintendo-wing-screwdriver/p-1169.html and then you can buy a top screen from http://www.consoleparts4u.co.uk/nintendo-ds-lite-top-lcd-64-p.asp. All I can suggest is that you're carefull. Hope this helps.

Nintendo DS Lite

Well something more appropriate i guess would be my ongoing issue with DS's that have had screens replaced.

if you could describe something for me

as the unit will not power ,,, plug in the charger, if it is as i suspect you will get an orange light illuminate for 1 second, after it goes off the unit is unresponsive until you unplug and replug the charger.

if this describes your problem i would be most interested to hear weather you used the ORIGINAL screen or if it is a replacement screen

thanx

Nintendo ds to screen broken

Hi, replacing the original nds upper screen is a fairly straight forward procedure, you need to remove the 4 x small plastic plugs located in the corners of upper screen, then remove the 4 x phillips screws, the top outer back part of the case will seperate and you can gain access to the screen. Firstly remove the small screw holding down the right hand pcboard to gain access to the ribbon connectors, release the larger flat connector by hinging the clip up, slide the ribbon out, underneath you will see a tiny connector, gently ease the small clip back towards the ribbon, prising a little each side at a time, remove the ribbon and then you can prise the screen from the case.

Top screen of ds lite has lines

Get a tri winged screwdriver (can be bought from www.whitedog.co.uk/catalog/nintendo-wing-screwdriver/p-1169.html) take the rubber pads off and undo your DS. Check the screen connections attatched to the speaker circuit board and the connections on the main circuit board. If the cable looks to have a slight crack in it or looks to be excessively bent the buy a new connector. (you can buy them from www.consoleparts4u.co.uk/nintendo-ds-screen-connecting-ribbon-cable-107-p.asp. Hope this helps :-)

NINTENDO DS FELL 2 FEET AND WHEN I CHECKED IT THE TOP SCREEN WAS CRACKED IN THE BACK AND CANT SEE HALF THE SCREEN CAUSE OF THE CRACKS SO I NEED TO NOW IF YOU GUYS CAN FIX THE SCREEN OR KNOW A PLACE THAT...

DONT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE THE TOP SCREEN ON THE DS LITE. It is easy to replace it on the original ds, But the ds lite requires you to re-soilder the 4 speaker cables into the top screen's video ribbon cable.
