Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer wont spin

My kenmore dryer powers on and heats up, however it will not spin. Through research online sounds like a belt. the dryer is over 20 years old and i cannot find a manual to find access to the belts. The model/stock # is 96281800 and serial # is MB017997. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (entered wrong product below so my question could be asked, guess dryer to old for search results! sorry if that causes any problems.)

Take the back off  of the drier after unplugging and the beklt goes from the motor pully all the way around outside of the the drum. You can't miss it. Most of the Kenmore drier belts are the same. WE have apliance repair parts stores locally. If you also do , go to the store with the old belt and match it up.

I have a Kenmore dryer model 97260100 that has stopped working. It still turns on and warms up, but the drum does not spin. From some research online I thought it might be the belt?

The drum in my Kenmore gas dryer (over 20 years old) will not spin around. There is still heat, but clothes will not spin around. Does the belt need to be replaced or should I get a new dryer altogether?...

Dryer drum won't spin/tumble clothes

Chances are it's a broken belt. If you hear the sound of the motor running and your dryer is heating, there's nothing else but the belt.

Changing the belt yourself is pretty easy if you can use a screwdriver and have a little mechanical ability. The new belt is around $20, and you'll save big if you don't call a service person to do it for you. A good site with a step-by-step illustrated procedure for changing the belt is here. They also sell parts, or you can find the belt locally at any appliance parts store.

Dryer wont turn

Yes, it will save you alot of money and work just fine. You will have to shut off the dryer, turn off the gas and/or electric(disconnect it to be sure it is power free). Look at dryer carefully as you may be able to access the belt from the lower front. The belt is easily available at Sears Parts Stores. Do not use it until fixed as it might overheat!

Electric Dryer (Kenmore) It Doesn't spin

The motor has to start to close a switch to let it heat so it sounds like you need a new belt.
