Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 Webcam

Other person can't hear me

I just hooked everything up and when I check the vloume on my end I get sound and I can record just fine but when I accepted a video call they can't hear me they can see me.

    hi, I have the exact same problem - - sound is fine for me (IE: I can do sound recordings, videos, etc), but on a video call they can't hear me. How do I fix this?

    Did they turn on there volume to hear you

Send them this info so the can check their audio & Video settings.

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

You do not say what your computer set up is - You may have a laptop also with a built in mic
check these settings

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays
Restart computer

Probably the volume of your microphone is down.
Go to ( in windows ) to Configuration Panel > Sound > Recording devices and then check the volume of the microphone(s).

I installed my Mini Webcam Pro HO98756 without any problem. The person I talked to saw and heard me fine, but the person could only seem me but not hear me. What may be the problem? What can I Do? Thank...


Assuming you are running Windows XP or Vista, check the sound recording settings.
In the Control Panel, select Sound and then check if the webcam is selected as the source for the sound recording. Also make sure the sound recording volume level is not set to zero (which it often is!).

If your webcam driver is properly installed and has a microphone, this should fix it.

I just installed a Logitech Quickcam 9.5 and is working fine but when I tried to use the little headset/mic included, using Windows Live Messenger (MSN or Hotmail Messenger) and I can hear everything but...


First try going to your control panel,
  • click on sounds and audio devices,
  • click on audio at the top of the sounds and audio devices properties box
  • after that your default device should be listed under sound recording.
  • click on volume where it says sound recording should have a picture of a microphone, a recording control box should pop up, make sure the microphone box has a check in it,
  • click on advanced under the microphone box, put a check in the microphone boost box.
  • then exit from the control panel and right click on the icon of the little speaker at the bottom of your task bar.
  • click on open volume control.
  • your volume control box will appear, make sure the microphone mute box is not checked.
  • then set your microphone level.

Check you microphone settings in you audio mixer and make sure it is enabled for the web camera and not your sound card.

No sound


When I video conference in MSN Messenger, I can't hear my friend and he can't hear me. Or I can hear them but they can't hear me. What's wrong? trnsp.gif Answer Test the Microphone in Sound Recorder

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
If the microphone does not work in Sound Recorder, click here for help in determining the problem with the mic.
While using MSN Messenger it is the messenger program, not the camera software, that negotiates the audio streams between two MSN Messenger Clients. Although we cannot directly support audio issues in MSN Messenger, the following steps have been known to resolve and improve audio issues in MSN Messenger. For further information, please consult the help documents associated with MSN Messenger.
Test Your Networking Router
You can also test to see if your router is causing audio issues by either physically bypassing your router and connecting directly to your cable/DSL modem or by setting up your computer as the DMZ (de-militarized zone). If you are a novice networking user, it is not recommended that you leave your computer in the DMZ state for extended period as that may leave your computer vulnerable to attack. However, you may briefly configure your computer as the DMZ to determine if your network settings are causing the audio issues. For DMZ setup instructions, please consult your router's documentation.
Enable Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) on both Windows XP and Your Router.
If either of the above steps resolves the no audio problem, try the following steps.
  1. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. To open Add or Remove Programs, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. In the Components list, select the Networking Services check box, and then click Details.
  4. Make sure the Universal Plug and Play box is checked.
Notes: If you used a CD to set up Windows, you will be prompted to insert it into your computer.
If your router does not support UPnP or you still get no audio after enabling UPnP on both Windows XP and your router, you must manually open all UDP ports between 5004 and 65535. This is because the audio streams are sent dynamically using that range of ports. Without a dynamic way to open those ports like UPnP, there is no way for MSN Messenger to successfully negotiate the audio stream. Consult your router's documentation for instructions to manually open these required ports.
If you are still experiencing audio issues within MSN Messenger, and you have verified that the microphone is working in Sound Recorder, contact MSN Messenger Support.

It may be that this person is "messing around" with you, or their speakers are rigged, from my experince, it sounds like your headset is perfectly fine, or your headset microphone switch was toggled on "Off" Msn is just a instant messaging chat, shouldn't have anything to do with your headset.
