I'm not sure how big the drive can go up to on your laptop but I do know that you will need sata drivers for the harddrive to be recognised. (if using XP) If you have not got the drivers for the harddrive then try googling for them and follow the instructions that comes with them. If you are using vista then the harddrive should be picked up. If you are still having problems visit this forum http://www.digitaldiver.net/yabbse/index.php?board=5;action=display;threadid=23370
for some more tips

I hope this helps

It may be that your machine can not handle a drive of that size. When I replace hard drives I always try to replace them with the size they came with just in case they do not support a larger size.

How to Boot Sony Vaio VGN-S460 Laptop without CD/DVD ROM and With bootable USB

If the BIOS does not have the USB as one of the boot options then you cannot boot up with an USB memory stick.
In this case you need to replace the CD/DVD drive with a new one.

New hard drive operating system not found

The reason why you cannot install Windows on your hard drive is this model Sony has a SATA disk controller.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hello, i have sony vaio VPCEB46FG laptop & i have windows 7 64bit operating system & i want to install windows XP 32 bit but im getting following error "a problem has been detected and...

It is required to install the hard disk SATA drivers in the computer first. Download and extract the SATA drivers in a floppy drive, hard drive or CD on a different computer. Then, retsrt the computer by having the Windows XP disc inserted and beging the setup. During the setup process press the F6 key and enter>enter and then install the SATA drivers. Then, continue with the further setup process.

Select Windows XP Operating System and install the SATA drivers. Once, the SATA drivers are successfully installed you can continue with the further setup process with out errors.
You can also view a complete set of instructions on downgrading to the Windows XP Operating System and installing the SATA drivers.

Have vaio VGN-S460, window 7. Can't get internet

Windows 7 is still a beta and Sony probably doesn't make drivers yet for the network adapter on that computer. You might be able to install the windows vista or xp drivers and that may work. You might have to manually install these drivers, however.

My sony vaio does not detect the hardrive, and I installed new, and I called to sony and they said tha I need the same as it comes from factory, is it true or it has a motherboard problems?........I will...

Normally that is false and company's like to have only there parts in these machines as a way to ensure quality.

You could try and see if you can detect it in computer management in the administrative tools in the control panel if the drive is a slave or external.

If you are replacing or adding a new master drive make sure it is detected in the machines BIOS if not I would think the motherboard does not support a drive of that size or may only support certain types.

Vaio VGN-S460 won't boot

Maybe simply buy another SATA HDD to replaced faulty one, which you said it came with "clicking noises".

you also can try hold tee 'C" or "F12" when you power on the laptop to get from DVD booting.
