I dont remember my security key. How to change it?

    Do you mean the password to connect to the router via web interface or your network key used for encryption?

You can simply open the router's Setup Page or Admin Page. Open Internet Explorer or any internet browser and on the address bar, type 192.168.2.1. It will ask you to type username and password, just type the router's username and password which is admin. Then look for Wireless tab, Wireless Security tab, you can change it from there.

I need to add Aspire R11 to my wireless system. I don't know how to find the security key.


Every device on your system that connects wirelessly uses the same security key to get to the router. The security key is set in the router by the router administrator. Either you know the key or you don't. If you don't, then get the router administrator to tell it to you or if that person is you, then go into the router and either get the key (if it is viewable), find the key in another device that is attached (if it is viewable - not all are), or change it to another value so you can connect your device. Remember though, that changing the key will mean ALL OTHER devices that are connected wirelessly will need to have their security codes changed as well or else they will not be able to connect to the network.

The router is blocking access to one computer asking for a network security key which is apparently different from the password. How do you find the security key?

If you want to the security key you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security and under Security Mode you can see the Network Key or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password on your network to make it secure. You can personalize the Network Key so that you can easily remember it. Then Save the settings.

My other pc keep asking for sercurity key. I dont


Open your web browser and type 192.168.2.1
If no username and password is set click submit
Go to wireless security and check the security key if you are able to view it
Else create a new one and save the settings

Connect Router - Computer

Open RSP By typing 192.168.2.1 on the Address Bar of internet Explorer

On the Left Under Wireless Click Wifi Protected Setup ( If it is not there then you dont need to disable it )

Leave the Password Blank And click Submit

Disable it And click Apply Changes

On the left Under wireless click Security

Select it as 64 Bit WEP

On the key 1 type a 10 digit number

Make sure you remember this number and click Apply Changes

on the left side under Wireless Click Channel And SSiD

Change the SSiD inrto A Different Name And click Apply Changes

Restart the Router

Now try connecting to the New Network

And let me know if it works

Network key?


Network key is the password by which the wireless network is secure,,,,it is the password setup by you when u configured the router ,,,,,in case of wpa security this network is known as passphrase or shared key.In case of wep security it is key1.
If you still do not remember it then you need to login into the router setup page by the default gateway u r getting in command prompt after typing ipconfig .and you can login into router and can check the key

Need to change password from previously changed password


To secure the wireless network or to change any settings on the router you will need to access the router set up interface.
Open the set up interface of the router . Make sure that your computer will be connected to the router with the Ethernet cable.

Once you open the set up page of the router , you will find the place to change the wireless settings of the router. In case of Linksys wireless router , you will see the Wireless Tab at the top.

SSID : It is the name of the wireless network. This name will be shown on your wireless computer or the wireless device so that you can identify your own wireless network. All the routers come with their factory default settings. For example , the Linksys router will come with the Linksys network name.
It will be better to change the wireless network name.


Wireless Security

Change the security mode to WEP. This security type is supported by all the operating system. When change the security mode to WEP, you will find the Network key box to type the network key. Do not type anything in the Passphrase box. Type your network key in the Key 1 Box. If you set the encryption to 65 bits, your network key will be 10 digit hexadecimal number. that means you can use the combination of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and letters a,b,c,d,e,f only. remember it should be exactly 10.
If you set the Encryption to 128 bit, your network key will be the combination of 26 digits. You will need to remember the network key.

WPA

This is one of the most secured type of encryption.
Open the set up interface of the router. Change the wireless security mode to WPA personal. You will find the passphrase box. in this box you can type any password for your wireless network. The password should be the combination of number and letters and it should be 8 or more than 8 characters.
This security type is supported by WINDOWS XP SP2 and above Operating system.

WPA2
This is one of the highly secured type of encryption.
Open the set up interface of the router. Change the wireless security mode to WPA personal. You will find the passphrase box.In this box you can type any password for your wireless network. The password should be the combination of number and letters and it should be 8 or more than 8 characters. Keep the Algorithm to TKIP.
This security type is supported by WINDOWS VISTA and above.

Once you change the wireless settings on the router , try to connect to the new wireless network

Keeping others from connecting to your router:
1. Have an "wired only" router login access or for this router "change and disable your SSID". This way you avoid that others can login to
to the router changing your settings: See page 48 of the manual.
1.1 Wireless Network Name (SSID): change the default name SMC
to "any private name" ( and remember for later login )
1.2 Broadcast Wireless Network Name: change from default ENABLE
to DISABLE .

2. Make a secure wireless encryption key for your connection:
see page 87.
2.1 For most secure key select WPA / WPA2 only and SAVE SETTINGS .
2.2 See page 91 for entering and saving your secure key: the password
that must be entered to get access to the router.

My linsky connection was canceled and i dont have the disk


Log on to your linksys router page and reset the security key to what ever you want.Just open internet explore and type 192.168.1.1 and when the sign in box appears and if you didn't set up a password Just type Admin for the user name and Admin for the password.

WEP key recovery


plug a laptop or pc to the router with an ethernet cord.
go to internet explorer and type in "192.168.1.1"
log in to your router then go to security tab (depending on your router model) you are looking for WEP or WPA password. Change the password (write it down as well) and save your settings

I dont know my passphase


hello!

If you dont remember your passphrase or network key, you need to access the router page to check the router wireless settings. make sure that your computer is directly connected to the router to check your passphrase

Step 1: Access the router’s web-based setup page
Step 2: When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click Wireless
Step 3: Click Wireless Security and take note of the current Security Mode
Step 4: You will see your wireless network key or passphrase on this window
