It maybe hardware issue. Make sure the recording DTAM chip is working. You can try to record your personal annoucement, to see if the chip still record message.

SOURCE: it will record my message and answer incoming call

Usually this is a sign that the unit is in Announce Only (AO) mode.

To check the setting, press Options. Then use the softkey to select Ans Sys. Next select the line for which you want to check the setting (L1 or L2). Use the up/down (Call List) arrows to choose the current message type (A, B, C, or AO). Press Play/Stop to play this message or select Record to record a new message. To save desires the outgoing message announcement setting, press OK after you select A, B, C, or AO. Repeat this for the second phone line if you have a two line system.

A default message is available for the outgoing messages A, B and C. If you select one of these message types and do not record your own message, the default message will play.

The manual is available at retrevo here: http://www.retrevo.com/support/AT%26T-1782-manual/id/473bh051/t/2/ . You will need to enter a code to access the file.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Can we retrieve a deleted

Hello

I am sorry but your message has been permanently deleted and it cannot be retrieved again.

If you were probably using an old fashioned answering machine that utilizes a cassette tape then you may be in luck All you need to do is remove the cassette tape from your machine, stick it in a cassette player, and you can listen to your messages.

But i still suggest you contact AT&T for assistance.

Here is the direct link to the User's Manual for that phone:

http://att.vtp-media.com/ecp/documents/product_Product/1370/UserManual/5849/E5811_manual_I6.pdf

To view the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated and the contents of the Owner's Manual.

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents.
You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary.
Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, then follow the onscreen instructions to install the software on your computer.

See page 29 of the manual for complete details on the operation of the answering machine feature of your phone.

Also be sure that you do not have a separate VOICEMAIL feature from your phone service provider activated on your phone line at the same time. If you also have this type of VOICEMAIL service activated, then it has nothing to do with the answering machne built into your phone and will have different messages and will be controlled seperately by dialing an access number. The VOICEMAIL service may be picking up the incoming calls before your telephone answering machine does. If so, then you will have to get the instructions for the voicemail feature from your telephone service provider.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any details to add, have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck and take care.

Joe.

Record messages

Make sure it's in the "Answer" mode, not the "Announce" mode. The Announce mode merely plays an outgoing message but does not record an incoming message. The Answer mode does record incoming messages.
Since you declined to specify the model of your Uniden phone I can't tell you exactly how to switch modes. Select the model of your phone from the list beginning here to download a copy of the manual.

We have a 5.8 ghz vtech phone with answering machine. where the clock display is - there is an A. what does that mean?

That means your system is set to "announce" mode, where it plays an outgoing announcement but does not record any incoming messages. The alternative is "record" mode, which plays an outgoing message and then records the incoming message.
Since you didn't specify the model of your VTech system, I can only direct you to enter it into the search box here and download a copy of the manual.

Your machine is set to the announce mode, where it plays an outgoing announcement but does not record incoming messages. You want to switch it to the record mode. Since you declined to specify the model of your VTech system I can't tell you exactly how to do that. Not recording

Record Time sets the duration for recording the incoming messages. You have three
record time options. The options "1 minute" or "4 minutes" set the duration for
recording the incoming messages. "Announce only" answers the call but prevents
the caller from leaving a message.
1) Enter the Answ. Setup menu, and then the Record
Time submenu (see "Entering the Menu" on page 16).
2) Press volume up/down to select Record Time
(1 Minute, 4 Minutes, or Announce Only)
3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.
