Question about GE WDSR2080D Top Load Washer
Machine loads water then only hums and does not agitate. You can move the timer to spin and the water is pumped out and it spins dry. I have replaced the timer and nothing changed! I have checked all belts and connections. I read that the motor was a reversing motor that would change directions as it agitates .... could the motor be bad and work only in one direction? Thanks for any comments! Poco
Try replacing the drive bell, which is underneath the agitator. take the agitator off and unscrew the drive bell. remove and replace. the drive bell is most likely stripped.

Hello Tina Kaha - Often when a unit does not spin, it is because the unit cannot properly drain and dispose of the water and detergent solution. Does the unit make a humming noise? If so, the drainage hose/pump may be clogged and needs to be cleaned. If not, the washer may possibly be experiencing an issue with the door lock assembly, faulty pump, timer or control board not communicating correctly. Because it could be a number of any one of several underlying causes, I would recommend contacting a professional to properly diagnose and repair the unit.
