Question about JVC GR-D290 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I can not get the camera out of safeguard mode. The screen says to eject tape and reinsert, but that does not help. Also, I have tried disconnecting the battery, but that didn't help either. What should I do?
You mix te info with Write protected tapes.
Safe guard mode is caused by the motor that takes the tape out of it's case, through the mechanics and past the video head.
If for some reason the electronics detect that it's been done by too much force, the safe guard issue promts.

Unit in safeguard mode

Dig further down below along with the error message you will see a numeric code like "01", "02", "03" etc. For 01 or 02 you need an expert coz mode motor stucked up and need to change. In the case of "03" just eject the tape. To eject, apply power on the unit, open the cassette door leave it open for 5 sec or more until it ejected. Try with another cassette maybe that causes the problem. Other wise have it checked by an expert. Hope it helps

I have a DVL520U,
I may be lucky from what I have read, but this is what I did. I took out the tape, released the tension on it by pressing the small tab between the wheels (I observed a slight wheel movement). I took the eraser end of a pencil, and while holding the tab, rotated the spindles of the tape 10-15 rotations back and forth (this from the vcr days and tracking problems). I put the tape back in and the problem went away. I thought of this after reading post after post and then finding the definitions of the error codes on a french website. Codes 4-6 seemed to be with the mechanical aspects of the drive, codes 1-3 with the sensors etc. All in all it was a guess on my part. If any of this works for you, pass it along.

Unfortunately this is a repair issue. There are several failures that can occur, none of which will be resolved without service, that create this safeguard situation. Often the fpc cable which carries sensor information to the micro has been injured and that requires repair. Good luck, magic seadog

On page 51 of your manual, it states that an error has occurred and recommends resetting it by removing your battery, waiting a few minutes to clear it, and then resuming. If that doesn't clear the issue, then it may need servicing.
