Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck somewhere in the cavity of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

It may also be in the area of the turntable support, coupler, or motor.

The waveguide cover (also called a spatter shield) is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet.

In some models it is a larger stirrer cover type made of thicker plastic in the ceiling of the oven.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced. It provides important protection for the magnetron.

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

How do I reheat frozen lasagna

Microwave ovens are not meant to cook food, except in a very few situations. If the lasagne has already been cooked before it was frozen, then you'll need to weigh and to reheat it in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions in order to ensure the dish is heated through, though it's better to use a food thermometer.

The temperature you should aim for throughout the dish is 83C. Only at that temperature can you be sure that any bacteria in the dish will have been severely depleted.

My Kenmore Microwave slowly heats but mostly the dishes vs. the food. By the time the food is warm enough, the plate or mug is practically baking. The microwave is only 4 years old, so I can&#39

Sounds like you don't have proper microwave-compatible plates or mugs. Must have lead in them, or in the paint (!?!) Try a plastic plate or even a paper plate. I can't think of anything that would make the microwave oven do that, UNLESS it's a microwave/convection oven, in which case, the convection heater must be coming on whenever you are trying to just use the microwave function.

I need instructions for 10in. microwave browner

Only place I've found is here: CorningWare Browner Instructions

As these dishes were designed by Corning for a 650 watt over, you can recalculate preheat and cooking times for your oven with the following formula:

650/(your oven's wattage) x (listed preheat time or cook time)

For example, for a Corning MW-9 dish, they list 4 minutes maximum preheat time. I have a 1,580 watt oven. So 650/1580 = .41 x 4 minutes = 1.64 minutes and about a minute and a half preheat. (MAX).

Smoke and burning plastic smell in microwave oven

Burning plastic, not food? A component has overheated badly then, with a plastic case. The main suspect would be the high voltage capacitor in the magnetron supply. This is cheap and easily replaced ONLY IF you know what you are doing and can diagnose the fault. If you don't then DO NOT take the case off the unit as fatal voltages can be present inside even if the unit is unplugged.

I'd just buy another, as they are generally uneconomical to have repaired by a service tech.

I placed food in the microwave over to heat for 19 seconds, when it was finished I smelled smoke coming from the oven. The food was fine. I unpluged the oven. I tried it a couple of days later, it...

the smoke probably came from the heated food. try using it next time with different kind of foods and also try it to the same kind of food that produces smoke but observe carefully what will happen.

We put a plastic jar with a very small piece of foil on the rim and the microwave started to smoke. it might have run 30 seconds before we noticed it making a funny noise. it is a 1200 watt inverter

Hello Dwight,

You may have damaged the microwave. Since the oven cavity is a tuned cavity, introducing metal into it can wreck havoc on the magnetron (microwave generator itself).

Did you happen to notice if the smoke was from the plastic jar (plastic heating up from the high temp of the foil ring), or if it was the actual microwave smoking (and not blowing smoke out of the oven cavity from the plastic jar)?

When we first turn on the microwave there is like a mini-explosion and a fiery spark, but after that the microwave goes through its cycle and cooks the food. But we are afraid to try it again.

pls do not use any aluminum or metal material INSIDE the microwave, this can cause the problem

I assumed, but pls consider the ff info...

Be sure to use nonmetal utensils in the microwave.

For microwave cooking, cut meats and vegetables in uniform sizes to make sure that they cook evenly.

Paper plates, cups, and napkins can be used in the microwave. But don't use foil-lined paper products, paper towels that include nylon or synthetic fibers, or newspaper.
When using plastic roasting or cooking bags in the microwave, discard the wire twist tie and use a plastic fastener or a piece of string instead.

To ensure that food cooks fully and evenly in the microwave oven, stir food and turn dishes periodically while they're cooking.

Microwave does not heat food placed in the center of the turntable. Leaves a cold spot in the middle of the food.

This is normal. That's why I always recommend to my customers that the food be placed slightly off-center on the turntable. An analogy I refer to is stirring paint: If you stir paint with a stick by simply rotating the stick in the center of the can, it's far less effective than pulling the stick around an imaginary circle halfway bewteen the center and the edge.
