Protron 37" HDMI not producing sound

I just hooked up my new HDTV to a DVR box using the HDMI cable and I don't get any sound. My understanding was that HDMI was video and sound. Any ideas? Thanks, Peter

    Thanks for the input.

I hooked up using component audio/video cables and everything works OK. It is only when I use HDMI that I have a problem.

I'm having the same problem. TV was hooked up with HDMI. After months
of perfect performance, was watching tv one night, and all of a sudden,
no audio. I took the HDMI cable back to the store. I bought a new HDMI
cable, and guess what? Perfect picture, NO AUDIO!!

Audio works fine with A/V cables, but I want the audio and picture I had with the HDMI cable. Grrrr.

    Mee too...

Just got a new cable box with hdmi, hooked it up to the hdmi input in the back of the Protron, got a pic, but no audio. Checked the cable box for volume, it's fine, works fine in other modes too, also have a dvd player hooked up on component, audio works on that.
I've also had hdmi probs with this tv with the PS3, so Im pretty sure the hdmi setup is ****. Get what u pay for I guess ;(

Not sure what model you have , but the original Protron 37", the hook up is a DVI and only a computer can be hooked up to this.

There is no HDMI on the original version of the Protron 37". A later version does have the HDMI hook up.

LED TV takes 7-13 mins to display a picture when hooked up to cable DVR box, when hooked up w/ out DVR Does Not do that???

I would suggest you verify your cabling. Are you using HDMI cables? Connect a HDMI cable from the TV HDMI 1 to the Cable DVR Box, In the TV setup ,select HDMI 1 as source. If your Cable box does not have HDMI contact the provider for a updated box. With out the Make, Model of Box, Cable? Sat? Make, Model of TV. I don't know the connections?

Most likelly it is your DVR that has a problem. Their are a lot of issues with those DVR's from the cable or satellite companies. I would recomend swapping it out.

I have a 55" LG

Easy solution; this is a very common problem. Connect Cable or satellite box / DVR directly to one of the TV HDMI inputs. Connect an optical audio cable from that box to receiver so sound is surround through your speakers. You cannot connect DVR directly to receiver because the anti pirating chip will shut off the picture and produce a green or no screen at all.
You can, however, connect a BD (Blu-Ray) player via HDMI cable directly to your receiver without that problem. Connect HDMI output from receiver to a second HDMI input on the LG.

I would suggest to leave your directtv hd/dvr box connected the way It is.
The HD Colorstream 1input on your TV should work just fine.
This TV does not have an HDMI input but you can buy an adapter and connect to DVI/HDCP IN and that might be able to get 1080i video resolution on your TV.

Sony kdl-40v5100 has handshake problem

1.This issue sounds as though the TV connection circuit has an issue.
2. You have changed the DVR and the HDMI cables and you still have an issue with the video (pink screen) indicates a video circuit issue ( improper voltage or current) at the video section of the circuit.
3. This will require some troubleshooting by a qualified tech.
4. To make sure, try connecting another properly working LCD TV to the cable box or DVR an check. If you get a picture and sound properly it is the TV.
5. Usually a cable box is QA'd (quality assured) by the company and will not be sent unless tested 1st

I have the same set, same problem with one of my MOTOROLA boxes, but not with another. I have a SONY TV that works fine with this new MOTO box, but the new VIZIO does not. The audio is coming through the HDMI cable just fine, and the fact that it works when you cycle power on your TV means it's the SYNC between the TV and the BOX. I have the identical problem and am taking back the MOTO box for another one. I spoke to VIZIO for about 45 minutes trying different things. They think it's the MOTOROLA box, COX (my cable company) thinks it's this particular box, who knows.

Low volume on LG HDTV

I encountered the same thing using the HDMI interface on my new TWC cable box (Motorola DCX-3200). After a little bit of research, I finally fixed it by changing the digital audio mode in the cable box using this procedure:

1. Be sure the TV is on and connected to the cable box.
2. Using the cable box remote turn power OFF.
3. Immediately press the MENU key on the remote. The USER SETTINGS menu should appear on the TV screen.
4. Select the ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS >>> menu item.
5. The ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS menu will appear.
6. Scroll to the AUDIO OUTPUT item and select this.
7. Change the setting from AUTO to L-PCM.
8. Return to the main page
9. Using the remote, cycle power OFF.
10. When the cable box is turned on again, you should be good to go.

I realize these instructions are specific to the DCX-3200, but there may be a similar setup option available in your cable box as well.

The problem here is that the cable box is by default configured to use Dolby Digital audio, which requires an additional 10dB of headroom to deal with the boosted LFE channel. If the cable operator hasn't taken pains to set the system up correctly (and most haven't, apparently), the digital audio level sent on the HDMI interface will be approximately 11dB down from normal analog line levels on the HDTV channels. Changing to straight linear PCM sets the TV receiver audio level on the HDTV channels to match the levels on the non-HD channels.

The only problem with this fix is that if you intend to feed a Home Theater receiver that uses Dolby Digital processing with the cable box output you will lose the Dolby encoding feature and be forced into straight 2-channel stereo. For a simple installation like mine where I'm just feeding the TV, this fix works fine. If you have a more complex setup that takes advantage of Dolby Digital features (when it's available in program material), you may have to live with the problem.

For a technical reference on why this happens, see http://www.megahz.com/specimages/Dolby/LM100%20Cable%20App%20Note%2011-05.pdf

Hope this is useful.
