How do i delete data on external hard drive with my Mac that was formatted on a PC

Hi John,
Say you don't need the files on the drive. You could consider reformatting the drive.
If you were to delete selected files only, there are software programs available on the official Mac. website and many other sources in the internet that you can download, install and use to do that. If you can post this question in Fixya, surely you can access anything in the so I don't need to provide details here.

Hi there,

The could be only two reasons for that problem with enclosure or hd. You need first figure out which one is the problem.
Plug the HD directly to the computer and see if computer can recognize it. If computer can recognize HD and you can access it then the problem with enclosure and something got burned when power got back. If you the enclosure still under warranty try to get replacement of if you electronic tinker you might try to fix it. If computer not able to recongnize HD and you can't access it from WIN then HD got fried. I would not recommend to store any important data on HD there is always a chance it will fail at some point.

Cheers, DS

The hard disk inside that Spire case has died - running the free space clean from CCleaner (a very intensive procedure) has been the death blow to an already sick disk.. Nothing more can be done to save it and the data on it. Replace it with a new one.

Attach your external HD with some other computer, that will definitely appear normal, the problem is due to a virus in ur HD. Your computer's antivirus software stops it to appear. Back up your data on the other computer, format ur external HD, remove un-necessary files and run a virus scan to the files u copied from HD, Hope this will solve the problem, if not, let me know and tell me what would be the response on the other compuer

Files disappearing on external hard-drive (nexstar.3)

In this case you should use data recovery software to try recovering the files and data, provided those lost data are not fully overwrtten.

Be careful: Before your files are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the external in case the original files are overwritten.
