Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Referator doors are hard to open

Side by side doors. One has to pull very hard to open either of the doors. How can this be corrected?

Great advice. It was simple and straight forward, and best of all, it worked. I placed the popcicle sticks on the bottom of the door instead of the seal. This was more acceptable to my wife. By doing this no one could see the sticks. Thanks again!

When you shut the door there is a vacuum occuring and causing the doors to be hard to open. Take someting like a popcicle stick, break it in half and put them together, one on the other and tape it to the gasket at the bottom of the ref side door. This will make a vacuum break and should make the doors easier to open. Also, make sure your gaskets are clean, no sticky stuff on them or the frame.

Sounds like a door problem not an opener problem. Pull the emergency release on the opener and make sure the door itself is operating correctly. Soulds like the assist on the door needs adjusted.

Refrigerator door won't stay closed

Pull on the gaskets some times they are broken and will take up moore room that when correctly aligned. especially on the side of the door where the hinges are. Inspect thehinges also see of brackets are loose. If the gasket is bunched up on the hinge side try duct taping them down and retry the door. If this corrects problem replace door gaskets. If a plastic grommet is missing in the door it will nolt align correctly and you will be able to pick up on the outer corner of the door and it will wobel and be loose on the hinge. ReplACE THE GROMETS and retest and align as nessary.

Hard shutting door - will come open easy

Check on the hinge side of the door, often the gasket does not fit properly if the door is not correctly aligned and the gasket ends up bending and preventing the door from closing.

I have a 99 528i, driver side door won't open from inside or out.

to be honest i would need the car in front of me to diagnose correctly but from the sound of it the mechanism inside the door is worn, the lever that springs open the jaws has worn to the extent that it will not push the two contacts inside the lock open to allow the door pawl to swivel around releasing the door.Only way is too remove the door trim if you can and operate the mechanism with a big screwdriver to open the door then renew the mechanism

SIDE BY SIDE FRIDGE DOORS VERY HARD TO OPEN

its because the door seals are new and are working correctly. The pressure difference between the warm outside and the cold inside cause a sort of vaccum and so makes it hard to open. It is usually only after the door has been closed a while that it will be hard to open. put your finger around the edge of the door and shift the seal slightly, this will release the vaccum and let the door open normally. It will get better after a few weeks. I have had 2 whirlpools also and this has been the same on both of mine.
