Greetings, I have the same problem. There is a one inch square diode with 5-prong connections held on the control end by a screw on the unit's back. That's where my burning smell and very hot area were located. Call Carrol Apl. 1-800-654-3545. They have the diode for $9 + $9.95 postage. Matt who works there knows the part. Problem must be widespread - China Mfr.= Garbage products and No US Jobs.

I just had the same problem last night and the back became hot and today the screw area has a black circle and shorted out the fuse box. Is there a place in Michigan/

I have the same problem. I bought the diode but need to see a wiring diagram for where the wires plug on. Thanks

I see where link below for pdf doesn't work. Google LFP 6152-Amazon S3 Manual with wiring diagram and part numbers are there. My heater just starting smelling like plastic burning with both orange and red lights on at same time.

Last time i came across this the limit safety had melted. It is located in the panel right side of the unit. UNPLUG POWER before taking anything apart. You can contact the manufacturer to try to get parts to replace, do not use this heater until it is repaired it can cause a fire

I also had this diode stop working so that both lights stayed on and had the strong burning plastic smell. After searching many places online, I found many places carrying the exact same part. Here's a website containing the specs for the diode http://www.futurlec.com/Diodes/MB2510.shtml, and the site (www.futurlec.com) had the part "MB 2510" for 2.60 with $4.00 shipping. I bought two.

Hello. The red and the black are the hot wires. Therefore, connect one of your conductors to the red and the other conductor to the black. Use wirenuts. The bare ground wire should be solidly attached to the new unit's green wire using a wire nut.

How to wire unit baseboard heater to the power to thermoster

That is a portable unit and should not be hard-wired and controlled by a wall-mounted thermostat. The unit may never cut off that way.

It is considered a "space heater" not an area heater.

Smells like burn't plastic.

This is for the LFP6152E electric heater. I called tech support (800.642.HEAT), and explained the problem. I was told it was a diode that went bad, and they're sending me a repair kit. I guess I'll keep this number handy for the next few years.

Before you open the the unit check first the warranty period /if open the unit the warranty will be cancelled .
The heat sensor not working in automatic / the heat exceed the limit by the heating machine the insulation keep smelling .
The small contactor might stuck due to spark and then stick together , /need to replace contactor .

Smell

the heat may be affecting the unit's paint. normally the oil used in manufacturing burns off the first time the unit is used. maybe the proximity of the element to the case is too close.
