I am havung trouble installing updates on to my laptop running windows vista, a code appears then says its failled - 8007371C, can anyone help?

Thats a known problem for microsoft, they have 3 diferent solution to solve it

How to fix error code. STOP: 0x0000C1F5


This issue occurs because the Common Log File System (Clfs.sys) driver does not fix the $TxfLog file when the file is corrupted. In addition to the Stop error message, Windows Vista may not start during startup until the offending disk is removed from the computer.
Support for Windows Vista without any service packs installed ended on April 13, 2010. To continue receiving security updates for Windows, make sure you're running Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (SP2).
To fix this allow Microsoft Windows to update you to the latest service pack.

Windows installer for Vista is Installer version 4.5, so the updates should fix the issue.

Hello,

It seems you have a virus, where you only see the mouse pointer and no desktop icons nor start bar ?
Please update anti-virus database then run virus scan.

If you are sure you do NOT have a virus, try to do a system restore to a point when you know the laptop was working with desktop available.

For Windows Vista/7, press on start then type in SYSTEM RESTORE, double-click on the icon that comes up, choose "Restore previous point".

"BOOTMGR is missing"


Find yourself receiving "BOOTMGR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" message? Don't stress! Its easier to fix than you think. Here's how:

SOLUTION 1

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Set your computer to boot from DVD or CD in your BIOS.

Vista will ask you for language and keyboard layout information, after which you will be asked if you want to re-install Vista or repair your existing installation.
Select Repair. After which Vista's System Recovery Tool will start.

Select Startup Repair and let Vista do its thing! That really is all there is to it!


If that doesn't work try this:


SOLUTION 2

If the previous method does not resolve the problem, you can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment. To do this, follow these steps:

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Press a key when you are prompted.
- Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next
- Click Repair your computer
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt
- Type bootrec /rebuildbcd and then press ENTER

• If Bootrec runs successfully, it will present you with the installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes . A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.

• If Bootrec cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order shown below: (Remember to press ENTER after each command)

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

bootrec /rebuildbcd


- Restart the computer.

Windows Vista doesn't recognize cable


XP & Vista require different drivers to run hardware devices.
Visit the Vista compatibility site to determine if your hardware is compatible, by clicking here,
or visit the manufacturer's website to see if there are updated drivers and firmware available for Vista that you can download and install.
Another possibility is to visit Windows Update and run a custom scan with the cable attached and see if you are offered a hardware update for your system that would make it work, but this seems unlikely in the case of a cable...

There could well be a sticker on the back of your laptop with the product code on for windows vista. After you have this Vista will need to be activated within 30 days of installing it.

Your problem: "I have Windows Vista installed on my laptop."

Unfortunately, as with a lot of MS service packs, they can crash some computers. You need your windows vista disk and, booting from it, you can select repair your vista installation. This should take care of the problem. Then don't update to sp1 for a few months.
