Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

4 Answers

Xbox 360 is on , but no Picture/Sound

Problem :- No sound/Picture

I was playing a game today on my xbox 360 and the screen suddenly started going reddish - now I could still play my game the graphics(colours) started to go a bit wierd , like a tint of red and the green was went brighter . It started to go a little bit blurry . The console remained the same i.e. no red lights , no funny sounds .

I pulled the cable out just a little bit and the screen returned to normal for a duration of no longer than 10 seconds . It then returned to red blurryness and small red lines etc however the game was still playable .After the problem persisted , I went and turned the console off . When I switched it back on it started up fine i.e. 'no red ring' or 'funny sounds' . All the lights were on as normal however - their was NO sound & NO picture .

I have tried unplugging all the cables and replugging them . I've tried plugging the cables into different scarts in the back of the TV i.e. the different audio(red/white) sockets . I've also tried just playing it in NON HD i.e. removing the 3 other cables and just having the red, white and yellow one plugged in - this still didn't display/play anything .

I'm in desperate need of some advice on how I can solve this problem ?

Background to the Xbox 360 :- I've had it since the day it came out , it's the original not the problem prone preminium and I've never had any problems before with it .

Pretty much the exact same situation happened to my XBOX about a week ago. The graphics started to change as if it looked more like a watercolor painting. I immediately turned my console off and left it off at least 24 hours. When I started the console back up again, there was no sound or picture. Using the controller, I can still turn the console on and off without any problems. Just no picture and sound AT ALL.

I as well have this problem, actually has had it for a while. Anyone else that has had this problem has done what everyone has- curse aloud, look for an answer on the net, and once none is found call microsoft, and once learned that they won't fix this (because it is not covered in the warranty) curse even more.
All I know is that this is something to do with the motherboard, so more needs to be done to it than just some idiotic "towel trick" that may or may not work. Until the everyday guy finds a solution for this problem for us, our best bet is to either buy a new one, buy a broken one from ebay and salvage the motherboard (if possible) and work on it, or take it to a game shop (not a game store like Gamestop, the hole-in-the-wall shops) and pay $50 for them to fix it.

DO NOT USE THE TOWEL ONE!!!
THE TOWEL ONLY HEATS IT UP MORE AND THE 2 X CLAMPS INSIDE WILL VIBRATE ONLY 2 MAKE THE MAIN XBOX CHIP 2 COME OUT OF ITS PLACE.... SO THIS IS WHAT U DO!!! First Get a Screw driver and take out the covers of the xbox and ull see a metal sheeting. Then take out all the screws from the metal board. then take out the other things (take out the fan last) Then If its the graphics chip thats broken then u need a new one but if its out of place, replace it and put the xbox bak 2gether. The  the prob shud not happen again. This is what happened 2 me only last week. it shud only take 30 mins 2 fix.
But the other prob could be the cord cause the cord might be old faulty or broken cause my friend had dat prob.

Alright dudes here we go. If you look up further on this thread i HAD the same problem. This is how i fixed it. I needed it to red ring so i could send it back in to get replaced since my 1 year warrenty was up. But i fixed it instead. So here is how you do it. First i took off my hard drive on the 360. Then i pluged it to the tv not with HDTV (use the red, yellow and white make sure it is on tv not HDTV) i only say this because i didn't use the HDTV setting to fix it. then i pluged it into the wall with the 360 laying down not up and down and turned it on. (no picture but sound) with the 360 on i took 1 towel folded it long ways and wraped it around my 360 from back to front (make sure you cover the fans in the back to make it over heat.) leave your 360 on until it red rings (you can hear the 360 quit down. it takes about 15-30 mins depending on how fast it over heats. once this happens unwrap the 360 and turn it off wait 5 secs and power it back on and there you go you should have picture and sound again. mine has been working for 3 days now with no problem i even have it hooked up using the HDTV cables in my living room. if this don'ts help you now you have a red ringed 360 and you can send it in to get repaired since there is a 3 year warrenty for red ringed 360's.

It most likely is a poor solder connection on the motherboard at the video input.. I had the same problem and had success reheating with a soldering iron the pins near the hdmi port on the board.

Red ring is not the only problem with Microsoft Xbox 360. This amazing device also has some more common problems like Audio but no picture/sound, disc read error etc. Microsoft is providing extended warranty only for red ring problem. Means you will have to spend some money to get this problem repaired also if you plan to send your xbox to Microsoft, you will have to wait for 3-4 weeks to get back your favourite Xbox. Xbox 360 plays for a few minutes and then the screen goes black with no sound or picture.

your graphics processor IC chip needs its solder joints reflowing, and the heatsink re securing.

This will solve the problem.
