Question about Vacuums

2 Answers

Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 evidentally overheated. Allowed unit to cool and observed a spark/smoke at outlet when it was replugged into the power outlet. Unit will not power up now. Circuit breakers in the home are fine. Is there a fuse that can be replaced in the unit? Does the unit need to be serviced? Is there a Eureka Authorized Service Center in Orlando, Florida?

Same thing here... works for two rooms then stops. Sometimes it will come back on two hours or two days.

I was in the process of vacuuming when I saw numerous sparks & then my vacuum shut down. After reading up on it, I tried replacing everything and checking for clogs to make sure it wasn't overheated. It will still not operate a few days later.

Seems Eureka is putting faulty, insufficient wiring in many models, most especially my model (if you do a search of this site, you will be how many people have experienced fried wires and switches). There should be a class-action lawsuit in my opinion.
Nonetheless, I had exactly the same problem with my upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless. Eventually, the handle would get hot, and finally it just quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was toast. Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there, but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's Genesis). It is Part #27871.

The wires leading to the switch inside my Eureka 4870 are fried...black and melted. Don't know why that happened, but it may be what is happening to the others listed on this site as well.

Eureka Smart Vac The Boss no suction from either setting. I have taken it apart trying to see if it was clogged but it isn't. Checked the hose it is not sliced.

Remove the bag cover and feel for suction above the motor. If their is suction there then check the bag compartment is sealed. You can drop a coin down the hose to check for blockages all the way to where the bag attaches.

Where is motor filter located for Eureka Smart vac model 4870

The motor filter is inside the bag compartment. Lift up the bag at bottom, you will see a black grid with a finger pull tab. Lift it up and you should see a bright yellow small filter.

Yes, you need to replace the belt. You should actually change this belt every year. Here is a link to the belt you need and the manual which has instructions:

Eureka the Boss SmartVac just turned off and won't turn on

Make sure it is not the electrical outlet that has tripped. If not then you basically have 3 choices. Cord, switch, motor. A service tech. should be able to diagnose.
