Question about Projection Televisions

I have a Karaoke "The Singing Machine" model STVD-919 that no longer transfers the camera image to the screen on the Karaoke unit but will transfer the image to a TV when the video out is connected from the Karaoke machine to a TV. Clearly, the camera is still working but for some reason when hitting "camera" on the remote, it does not send the image to the screen on the Karaoke machine.

I need someone with a better understanding of this problem, i.e. someone with specific knowledge of this particular Karaoke machine...answers provided not at all helpful as they are "generic" and not applicable to question asked.

  • stephen265 Dec 18, 2008

The screen on the Karaoke machine works just fine for TV or DVD...the problem is that the camera image will not transfer to the screen when the camera function button is depressed on the remote. The camera, again, is functional as it will transfer to a TV attached to the Karaoke with the video RCA jack cable.

The display menu works just fine and all features are accessible except "V-chip" which requires a 4 digit passcode. Not aware of ever setting-up any passcode nor if access to this part of the menu would be helpful in resolution of the problem.

  • stephen265 Dec 18, 2008

Ah, must be the problem..no diode blink when camera button depressed. Could this be related to batteries? Seems to activate all other remote features. Not a "techy" so wonder why remote works without the diode blinking.

  • stephen265 Dec 18, 2008

Any particular solution you would recommend. I have some automotive grease and wax remover solvent as well as various thinners, Isopropol alcohol, etc.

  • stephen265 Dec 18, 2008

Thanks so very much. If cleaning doesn't work will see if new remote available from manufacturer.

  • stephen265 Dec 18, 2008

Again, thank you for your assistance. You zeroed right in on the problem.

  • stephen265 Dec 19, 2008

oops...I didnt' really understand the test method you suggested. NOW I see the light blinking in the screen of the TV with the Karaoke machine connected to the TV...I was looking at the little light with the naked eye and didn't realize I was to look into the tv screen. Also...when the camera is set to "off" the picture from the lens still shows in the tv...any other suggestions?

I have been able to verify that the infra red globe on the remote is working. I wasn't clear on what you were asking me to do in the instructioin using a digital camera, etc. Later, however, with the Karaoke machine connected to a TV (video out from back of Karaoke to vodeop om pm TV) when depressing the camera button on the remote of the Karaoke machine, I can see the light blinking in the screen of the tv when the remote is pointed at the tv screen. So, obviously, the remote is fully functional. Additionally, the camera on the karaoke machine is also working because the camera is putting my image onto the tv screen. So I'm back to the beginning. I just don't know why the camera on the karaoke machine is not sending the image to the screen on the karaoke machine. It must be some kind of wiring connection that has failed inside the karaoke machine that alllows the camera to send an image to a tv but not to it's own screen.

you can check it by using any camcorder or digital camera, just see remote front ir diode in camera and press remote button, IR diode will blink.

its not related to batteries as other buttons are working.
remote switch has carbon coating on its PCB that can be dirty / clogged and tech person can open it to clean carbon coating carefully. I hope remote button will start work.

use alcohol to clean remote circuit board. other liquids can damage carbon coating.

well, if camera button on remote doesn't work after cleaning, then new remote is the only option.

    Hello,
Please unplug singing machine from AC Outlet for 10-15 minutes, replug it and power up again.

Press TV/AV/DVD button or TV/DVD button to switch to DVD mode first. Then press CAMERA button to camera mode.

If still no joy then TV tech person requires to inspect it physically to diagnose what could be wrong in it.

    Thank you.

The first thing I would check is the remote control, see if the remote lost the code and isn't switching. I think that if it's not that, then the screen in the machine itself is gone unless a wire came off. If that's the case then if you have a warantee now would be the time to use it. I enclosed the instruction and troubleshooting guide http://www.singingmachine.com/download/Instruction_Manual/STVD-919.pdf good luck

I have a Panasonic Quintrix F TV. About 6 weeks ago the tv screen started displaying

Rule out the signal source by seeing if same issue when a DVD etc is used.

Usually a wave like motion from bottom to top is either signal related or a problem in the power supply (wave moves from bottom to top suggests that).

If not on rear inputs (A/V) it is not the power supply.

Model number is not indicated here and might be helpful.

I have a Mitsubishi WS55809 that I purchased in 2002, and my kids have been using it for gaming. As they are playing, the screen convergence will change constantly from a normal image, to a "bow...

Unless you've moved the unit lately, or the kids have treated it roughly, it's probably not the mirror, which is fixed in place with screws on this model.
You can also take a look at this website here, which describes some solutions to bowing problems, specifically replacing the convergence ICs. However, this is expensive, provided you can still find parts, and probably isn't your problem, anyway.
Since whacking the unit fixes and un-fixes the problem, it's more than likely a connector that's loose. If you know your way around the inside of a TV, you can unplug, clean, and re-plug the various boards and connectors, especially the convergence and deflector boards. That will likely solve your problem
CAUTION: If you don't know your way around the inside of a TV, DON'T OPEN IT! Even after unplugging the TV, some of the wires inside will have enough voltage to cause serious injury. Better to be safe than sorry.

T V. remote control not working, new batteries instaled

Have you got a phone with a camera? The easiest way to check the remote is to "fire" the remote at the camera and view the image on the screen. If the remote works at all, you should see flashes of light around the infra-red LED on the remote. If you can't see anything, you can open up the remote, check for obvious poor solder joints. Sometimes a liquid spill insulates the keypad from the carbon contactors on the rubber pads. Try cleaning the ENTIRE remote in surgical or methylated spirit. Dry the remote thoroughly and then reassemble it and try the camera technique again. I have solved lots of remote problems this way.

Good luck.

That repair will cost about 50 dollars if you do it yourself. Go to this link and they will let you know what ICs your model takes just leave them the model number and ask for the number STK Convergence ICs you need. They also provide free instalation instructions with pictures with their replacement ICs so you can do the job yourself. Heres the link.
