Too many flea medications. Wash him immediately with a dish liquid such as Dawn. See your veterinarian if you notice tremors, wobbly gait or excessive drooling. He should probably be examined by your veterinarian anyway to avoid complications. Discuss safer, more effective flea control with your veterinarian.

Both cats and dogs need to be given preventive products for fleas and ticks. If you are the head of a household where cats and dogs reside together, you may be tempted to get one flea and tick treatment for both. It's important that you do your research carefully before using any product on your pets that has not been explicitly prescribed for them, and this is particularly the case with flea and tick medicine.

Cats and dogs have different physiologists and these products affect them differently. Canine formulations of flea and tick preventive products can be lethal for cats, so you can not use the same medication on your dog as your cat -- unless it has been specifically formulated for both species.

Cat fleas may be responsible for disease transmission through humans, and have been suspected as transmission agents of plague. Furthermore, Small animals such as cats with large infestations can lose enough bodily fluid to fleas and may result with dehydration.

How do I get rid of fleas in my house?

For starter, cut up a flea collar and put the pieces inside your vacuum cleaner. Vacuum thoroughly, including spaces between and under couch cushions, under furniture, and in closets. Seal the vacuum bag in a plastic bag and get rid of it promptly. To deal the deathblow to larvae in carpets, use a special flea powder. Keep your cat out of the room and vacuum the carpet the next day. Throw bedding, seat covers and any other washables your pet touches into the washer at least once a week. Wash with the hottest water possible and some flea shampoo that works against both adult fleas and eggs.

Do flea shampoos work as a form of flea control?

There is NO "over the counter" solution for the fleas of today according to my Vet! She said it makes her mad they still sell the over the counter stuff because it rarely can eliminate all of the fleas and often does more damage your the animal while the fleas continue to thrive!. Our elderly dog almost died because we used an "in house" treatment rather than "bother" the vet with our "little" problem. Take your animal to the vet first! Please! Monkey is still with us but definitely a half step slower...6f321c05-3aee-4924-81c1-0d2e3d87b1b9.jpg

You may find that they are sand mites and are not effected by the chemicals found in that particular product. Perhaps a change of product might deliver a different result.
