Re: Lock/read only card message
Make sure all the files from the memory card have been downloaded and saved to the computer. You are going to need to format the memory card to remove the write protect/read only/lock issue. By formatting this will permanently erase all data from the memory card so you are able to use it again.
To format the card: go to Menu - to Submenu - to Format option - Start - then Start again - Press Menu to initiate the process - When done the recorder will be able to be used for recording purposes again.

Issue: [Memory card locked] message appears on the screen. Solution: Change the memory card lock switch to the normal setting
The SD card has a lock switch to prevent existing data from being erased. To record images or movies this switch must be in the normal (non lock) position. Different brands of SD memory cards may identify this switch differently. Regardless the procedure should be the same. Please remove the card from the camera and ensure that the switch is not in the locked position.
You should be able to retrieve photos, but not writing or erasing if the switch is switched to write protect.
If it's not functioning correctly, the camera may need service at Canonusa.com.

Phone may make a small tone and at the bottom of the screen it will read "Network Personalized" or perhaps "Network Already Personalized"
F. Now input the following from whatever screen shows up:

Phone may make small tone and will read "Network Lock Deactivated"

If you received a "wrong password" message you will need to insert a working SIM and reset the password to the default 8 zeroes "00000000". After that you may try this process again and it should work.
1 Use the remote 2 Press HOME 3 Move to SETUP 2 Scroll down to LOCK (no need to enter LOCK options) 3 Press '0' seven times A message that confirms that the player is region free will appear on the screen
hope it helps!
The folder lock can oly be solved by chosing the option "format" in the sub-menu. But please copy the *.dss - files still resting at your card at your harddisk first.
When the recorder finishes the format procedure, all folders will be unlocked again.
The "Read-Only-Failure" will occur again at recorders with differend user profiles, when you put the switched-off recorder into the docking station first and switch the power button to "on". So avoid this constellation!
Had same problem. Found online handbook for DS-4000 and page 37 pointed way.
Press menu button on the handset.Go to sub menu. Page 37 of online handbook suggests you can lock and unlock from this but I used the format icon on the submenu to reformat the card. Seems to be working fine now.
check the SD card and see if the little tab on the side of it is slid to the position that says "lock" If you cant see the words, try just switching the tab to the other side. Since SD means Secure Digital, these cards wont do anything if the lock tab is not in the right position.
Take the memory card out of the camera. Look at it carefully and you will seea small tab. Move the tab from the locked position to the unlocked position. Re-install the memory card into the camera and then you're done.
