Question about Kenmore 55612 / 55614 / 5561 / 655619 Side by Side Refrigerator
My refrigerator will not cool. I check all external parts and nothing seems to be loose or shorted. So i took off the control thermostat unit from inside and found it to be dark brown like it shorted. This unit was built in 2002 and in great condition. Can someone help me out to see what my problem may be. All internal lights turn on but i hear no motor or fans going. Can this be caused the by thermostat unit. Pleaes help
SOURCE: inside fan motor - evaporator
Yes if you dont hear the evap fan wprking remove rear panel in freezer let me know what you see. Is coil iced over? Is fan running? Is the motor warm? Attempt to spin the blade gently to see if the motor is bound. You can oil these.

SOURCE: compressor not running
This is the overload/relay assembly. Although a burned up overload can sometimes indicated a defective compressor, in most cases you can fix the problem by replaceing the overload/relay.

SOURCE: refrigerator stoped cooling
Ok, if the unit compressor will not run and just clicks on and then off, this will confirm a low charge state ad you will need to recharge this unit. the refrigerant level is low.
Purchasing a recharge kit and recharging the system will fix this issue.

That is the compressor not running. Could be a bad compressor, or one of it's starting components.
You can remove the start components from the compressor, by removing the cover, and pulling them off the compressor pins.
Any decent sized appliance parts house will test the components, usually made up of the overload protector, start relay, and on some models a start/run capacitor.
If any parts check bad, replace them, if they all check O.K. then you will need the services of a trained service tech.

This tapping or knocking to turn on the fridge is usually done due to the fault in the cold control knob ,
This happens If the contacts inside that cold control thermostat have gone bad , and need either cleaning of replacement.
The best idea and quick fix could be to remove the knob and wash it with petrol or a similar liquid and then again connect it after some time, this would possibly remove any material like carbon or dirt which block the knob's contact.
If this does not work , then it's better to replace the cold control knob and things would work fine.
One of my friend's had this same problem and cleaning the knob with liquid like petrol was a solution for him and I hope it would be the same in your case as well.
Hope this helps ...:)
