insignia d400a desktop, when i boot it up you can see the lights and hear the processor and hard drive boot but will not show video has on board video, I had this problen before but bought another video card and put it in the pci slot and it worked, but now having the same problem and neither way is working, checked jumpers on mother board and even changed battery on mother board

If the monitor works on a laptop and checking memory does not give a signal, I think it is the video connection. Do you use a video card or is the connection on the motherboard?

According to the Insignia support site, your computer has 3 pci slots with 1 pci slot available. You can buy a pci video card on ebay or from other vendors with very little effort. You want me to install it too?

My insignia d400a freezes and now everything seems to start normally except the monitor won't start. I am running linux 12.4.3 server with xubuntu desktop on it. I have the same exact setup on my dell

Did you look for bad capacitors inside the power supply? I'd bet the 12V supply (for the video driver chip) is down. The first thing to do is measure the supply voltages to make sure they are within 5% of spec. Many chips will run OK at low voltage as long as they are cool, but once they heat up, they'll quit working. A bad cap on a DC power filter input will cause a low voltage on the filter output if the output cap is still good.

Computer frozen

This could be any number of things. First thing is to determine what the problem is is to remove everything from the motherboard but the cpu, fan, and monitor. Turn on the computer. Does it beep? If so, then put the memory back in and try it again. If not, then the motherboard is likely the culprit.

How do I Install a memory module into my Insignia D400a computer?

Short and sweet?
1- disconnect the computer from all power including monitor and peripherals
2-Open the case up by removing what should be three screws in the back of the case, might be six screws as well never checked
3- open the case slide the panel off and voila you are in the computer
4- look for two to four rows that should/are colour coded, two rows will be black and two others will be orange (NOTE colours are not absoluter since they are not standardized yet the colours seem to range from black to pink, go figure) You should see one memory module in place already and an empty slot just beside it
5- Match colour and direction of the memory chip with the slot. These are one way only chips, as in they will only fit in, the one way. Once you have it lined up push firmly the two tabs on either end will snap up and lock the chip in place
6- Put everything back together, turn on the computer and see if it all works, if it does, congratulate yourself and enjoy your new faster computer. Hope this helps

I had to do a complete system recovery using the DVD tht came with my insignia D400a after i replaced the hard drive. Now my CD or DVD drives work. THe drivers were installed but the computer can not...

Lets try this !
Step 1 - click start - run- type regedit - press enter and it'll open registry editor.
Step 2 - Locate, and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right handside, you will see upper and lower filters.
Right click on them one by one and delete.

Restart your PC and see the results.
Hope this helps !

Inisgnia LCD connect to dell laptop

Depending on what kind of laptop you have, your button may look different. Look at the Function keys (all those keys up at the top that have F's in front of them) and see if there is another colored symbol on any of them. You should find a colored symbol that looks like a rectangular monitor.

Press another key toward the bottom of your keyboard that probably says "Fn" or some other kind of "Function" key - not Alt, Ctrl, or Shift. Hold that Fn key down while you press the first key you found that looks like a monitor. That will change your laptop video output mode between several different modes like: laptop LCD panel only; LCD panel and external monitor; and external monitor only.

Power problem

That seems to point to a problem with your video card.  Try taking it out and putting back in.  The power saving mode message comes purely from the monitor and only means it isn't getting a signal.  Also check the connection to the monitor and maybe a different cable.

Drivers for a Insignia d400a CPU

Sandrew, argh, are you kidding me?

Check intel's website, you have an intel D845GVSR motherboard. Here is a better web page!*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21

You'll have to search around but all your drivers are in intel's website. Except for one, and thats your media reader, you'll have to use to one supplied on your recovery disk that came with the D400A.
