Question about Umax Office Equipment & Supplies

My UMAX PowerLook 1100 does not start and gives the message CANNOT CALIBRATE SCANNER. I have dowloded the latest software from Silverfast Ai v.6.6 and thought that would fix the problem as I run a MacPro with OSX 10.5.5

Well, thanks. The lamp does light and the scanner starts up with trying to shift the lamp but then stops and flashes the error message and by the way- the lock is open! The power is there and the firwire works or it wouldn't start on a cycle.

Check all of your connections, and the USB into the machine. It should at least start. If there is no power, it may have just burnt out the lamp. sorry I couldn't be more helpful but if it dosen't go on it is not a software problem, good luck, Gym

Ok lets try this, delete it from the device manager, as long as you have the disks for it . Once you restart it will ask you for the software for the "new hardware", just choose install from ****, if it ain't working anyhow, it can't hurt, sometimes it may loose the irq, and needs a little nudge, good luch Gym

All scans with Umax Powerlook III are totally black around the edges with strange color bars where the images should be. This is using Umax Silverfast 6.0 software on a Mac running OS 10.4.11

sounds like the scanner is dead. only way to be sure that its not a software issue is to try that scanner on another machine. if you get the same issue on seperate machines, its a good bet that scanner is toast. Fortunately, you can usually go to the Salvation Army or Good will, and get a used scanner for 15 bucks, all you need is downloaded drivers and appropriate cables.

Hello, yes you will just need a firewire 400 (6 pin) to 800 (9 pin) cable as the new iMac no longer supports the 6 pin connector.

Trying to connect Umax PL 2100XL (SCSI) to G4 - scanner not found

I just told someone else this solution...KILL the SCSI junk...I had nothing but trouble with it with my Mac....I got a Ratoc Firewire to UltraSCSI Converter...to solve the regular SCSI to ultra SCSI problem...I also bought an adapter....It works great...no need for a SCSI card...or a driver...you just plug directly into your firewire port! If anyone can help me with my TA adapter startup problem...I'll be thrilled! Carole

Powerlook Umax 1100 Flatbed scanner & Mac 10.5.5 Driver's..?

Looks like they'll let you buy Silverfast SE for just ... $49. Wow. Expensive price for just a driver.

On the premise you may not need the Silverfast software per se, just the driver, you may be able to, after investigating the legality, try a demo version of a Silverfast product and see if you can keep the driver itself after you get uninstall Silverfast.
