RCA HD52W59 Turns Off

Hi, Based on your post/description, my guess is a loose connection or a cold solder problem (higher probability). Not unless you want to make another "30 mile trip", you have to find a local tech who is comfortable working with live/hot sets. The usual precaution on working with live/hot units and HV applies. This involves opening the back cover, powering the unit and with a foot long + insulated rod (I use a broken fiberglass fishing rod), poke around the inside of the TV, part/move the wires about, also press on the boards slightly. The idea is locate the loose connection or the cold solder. Soon as located, poweroff and resolder. If there is a component/board failure, the unit would not have operated intermittently. There is a big chance that the loose connection or cold solder just worsened and that cause the recent "chosen not to work". Further, the power light still turns on and you have not posted any other indications such as a beeping sound or blinking leds/lights which normally indicates failure. Hope this be of assistance/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you! I replaced the fuse with the part number you gave. It was $3 plus...

FL231. FUSE.... The RCA ITC222 chasis has a common problem. and it not all that difficult to repair. Does your rca projection tv have read blue and green shadows? Does it have bowing in affect on the top and bottom of picture? when you turn it on does some thin red green and blue line bow in from the top then go away. The main question to determine if you have the fl231 fuse problem is if you go into customer menu then setup do you have the "CONVERGENCE' option. If you do not. then i suspect you have this problem. In the manufactering of these sets Lead free solder is used. now there is great debate over the use of lead free. connection tend to be more brittle. cracks develop around the solder connections of the high voltage flyback transformer. this very small crack set up oscillations in the cuicit with a 400 milliamp fuse. THis fuse cant take it. When this fuse blows the processor then does not know its a projection tv with three projection tubes. it thinks its a crt tube tv. and crt tube tv dont need "convergence" so it removes the convergence from the set.

TO REPAIR... 1. Warning. this set can generate leathal dangerous voltages even unplug do not attempt if you have no experence with electronics.
2. Remove the back. there a number of torx 20 screws.
3. what you will see is a number of circit boards There will be one on the right and one on the left. the one on the right is the small signal board. the one on the left is called the power deflection board. it has a large black part with a big red or black wire coming from the top, this is the flyback.Next to the flyback on the right of it there will be three small rectangular componets tan or brown in color. these are fuses. the one in the middle is the fl231 fuse.
4. getting to this fuse can be difficult. these two cuicit boards sit on a tray that is removable. to remove this tray it is pulled out and up. BUt watch the wires.loosen the wire tyes.
5 when you get the tray up the bottom side of the board can be accessed
you will now have to unsolder that fuse. one side of this fuse is under a plastic part of the tray. i have found the easest way is to cut away the plastic to get to it. if you dont want to do this you will have to remove the board. only remove half of the plastic brace
7 RESOLDER FLYBACK CONNECTIONS simply heat up and add a little solder
8 reassemble set. make sure you examine the set for loose connections.
9 and remember "BE Careful'

I also have one of thos RCA 52 inch tvs and i am having a problem with a double screen like the outline of objects on tv is not centered so it looks like two people and the color is a green and a red...

You most likely have bad convergence IC chips. These chips are located on two large metal heat sinks on the circuit board. They are not very expensive ($60-75 for the pair) but replacing them requires de-soldering the old ones from the board and soldering in new ones. If you have some soldering  experience with electronics It may be a repair you'd like to try. A shop will want $300 and up to do this job. If you'd like further advice on this post back here and I can assist you.

Under the flyback transformer you have cracked solder joints at the legs of the flyback. Also you will see 3 little brown box fuses right next to the flyback. The one in the middle is open and has to be changed out

Where do you find this fuse?

the fl231 fuse problem can occur with movemtn of tv. Its caused by brittle connections. I get my special fuses from union electronics 1800 648 6657 or google the rca part 259213 check out my article in my tips and tricks section to determine if you have the fl231 problem if you dont have the convergence option in under setup in customer menu. then i would say you do, this is caused by bad solder connections and you wil have to solder this part in.

Rca tv wont come on at all

there is an inherant problem with rca tv's
they are not vented properly as far as im concerned

right in front of the fly back is a small part in mine it is grey i think it's a resister
when i took the back off i saw that it was sparking on 1 end ( wholy chit ) scared the **** out of me

if your chip is sparking try this fix if not turning on or no pic look inside and look for burns vthere a tell tale sign of over heating

what i did was crazzy but it worked

i took the stupid chip off by pulling on it what the puck it was screwed any how

then took it to my local electronics store they tested it and told me it was fine just had to but a new 1 since i broke a pin on 1 end

nothing grinding down ends of the case and adding some wire to the pins so i had somthing to solder to

the i re soldered the thing back to the board dam thing was trickey but as long as you are smart and gentl and for god sake un plug the set there is 600 volts inside if not more that can kill you near this chip

it now works fine my 52 inch tv has cost me $7.00 in gas and about 3 hours of time
what i noticed was that the chip over heated at the solder joint and burnt the hole bigger so i soldered and wired to the next conection and re soldered it carefully i did not remove or un plug any thing i just remeoved the board from it's slide mount and carrefully tiped t of only poping 2 conections witch were easy 2 put back on the tv is great it just hates running for 6 monthes at a time hell you shut off your $500.00 computer every once and a while dont you ???

then why would you not shut off your 2000 dollar tv every day

well hope this helps all or at least some of us who cant afford a high priced repair person to show up and tell us it will be 3-400 to fix but they will give us 50.00 for the old chasie and fix it and re sell it for 500 in a refurb tv store like factory direct in canada

I have three

I had the same problem. Thanks to the many posts on this site I was able to deduct that it was the Fusible Link F231. (See other posts about convergence problems) Was able to purchase them at Part# 576-3960400000 Littelfuse Fuses - A 125V UL TL LL .400A . They are only 55 cents plus shipping. I bought 5 for under $10 shipped. Only took 2 days to get them. Replaced it (needs to be re-soldered to board) and TV works like a charm!! I couldn't believe it. What a lifesaver!! Now I'm set if the fuse goes again...
Good Luck!
