RCA HD52W59 Turns Off

Hi, Based on your post/description, my guess is a loose connection or a cold solder problem (higher probability). Not unless you want to make another "30 mile trip", you have to find a local tech who is comfortable working with live/hot sets. The usual precaution on working with live/hot units and HV applies. This involves opening the back cover, powering the unit and with a foot long + insulated rod (I use a broken fiberglass fishing rod), poke around the inside of the TV, part/move the wires about, also press on the boards slightly. The idea is locate the loose connection or the cold solder. Soon as located, poweroff and resolder. If there is a component/board failure, the unit would not have operated intermittently. There is a big chance that the loose connection or cold solder just worsened and that cause the recent "chosen not to work". Further, the power light still turns on and you have not posted any other indications such as a beeping sound or blinking leds/lights which normally indicates failure. Hope this be of assistance/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

My RCA console tv has white horizontal lines accross screen, picture is very light and sound is ok, very frustrating. I know its an old tv, but appreciate any response. Thanks

Cold solder joints on the flyback transformer circuit board - probably because RCA used feed-thru steel rivets on their boards. Re-solder the connections using a good solder flux for clean solder joints and this will fix prob. The joints with the dull, pitted finish are the problem joints.

You most likely have bad convergence IC chips. These chips are located on two large metal heat sinks on the circuit board. They are not very expensive ($60-75 for the pair) but replacing them requires de-soldering the old ones from the board and soldering in new ones. If you have some soldering  experience with electronics It may be a repair you'd like to try. A shop will want $300 and up to do this job. If you'd like further advice on this post back here and I can assist you.

If the tub is not broke at the neck where the crt plugs on and the pins are all still there the there is a good chance that it will still work. You realey wont know untill you try and see. some shops might have a used crt board if they have had a tv come in struck by lighting and saved the board for what parts that was still good.I know i do that a lot. Dont think I got one for a 35 inch though.

No video on VIDEO 2...cold solder connections on video and audio inputs...resolder, but solder pad for video has no connection ...looking for a pictorial view of the PC board to insure there is a...

I just fixed this on my TV. With the small front input board removed from the tv, solderside up and the rca jacks pointing away from you begin.Looking at the board in this position locate RCA video jack. Directly in a row are 2 comparitively large solder pads. The pad furthest from the RCA jack and closest to you has a thin trace that runs from the noted pad to a solder pad on a small surface mount component marked 750. That small trace is not making contact on the solderpad that is soldered to the RCA jack. To fix it take a small metal pic or tiny flat screwdriver and scrape away some of the PC board coating right on the trace where it meets the solder pad, and place a small solder bridge on it. Thats it put it back together and watch TV. Thanks to all the members here who post solutions. Frank

I have three

I had the same problem. Thanks to the many posts on this site I was able to deduct that it was the Fusible Link F231. (See other posts about convergence problems) Was able to purchase them at mouser.com. Part# 576-3960400000 Littelfuse Fuses - A 125V UL TL LL .400A . They are only 55 cents plus shipping. I bought 5 for under $10 shipped. Only took 2 days to get them. Replaced it (needs to be re-soldered to board) and TV works like a charm!! I couldn't believe it. What a lifesaver!! Now I'm set if the fuse goes again...
Good Luck!
