Question about Sony VAIO TR2A Notebook

2 Answers

When i turn off computer, the power stays on and all the lights are on but the laptop itself is off.

There are more than one thing that i have noticed wrong from the laptop and i guess they are all related: 1. Sometimes but not always when i adjust the brightness of the laptop it suddenly freezes. But a freeze that i cannot alt, ctrl, delete. The only way to turn it off when it goes into this freeze mode is by disconecting the battery or power adapter when its on ac. Thats the first problem. 2. When im using the computer normally without any problem becasue it works great, very fast and it has a new hard drive so its not that, the problem is that when i sometimes turn the computer off the screen turns says shutting down and the computer actually turns off, but the power button is still lighted up and if i had the wireless On when i turned it off it will stay lit on until i again disconnect the main power, inex. the battery or the ac adapter. If i leave it alone like that it will continue to take power from the battery sucking it all off, even though the computer itself is not turned on. Im trying to find out how this problem is related to the first one on top because the brightness adjustment is the only thing that triggers this random freeze while im using it. 3. The internal clock when i look at the taskbar at the bottom is always staying behind... for example i can put a watch right next to it and i can see that in ten or twenty minutes past the laptops time will have past like 15... staying always behind the normal watch. I tried to fix this by putting a new cmos battery but it didnt do any fix at all. When i opened the clock and tried to see what was happening i could see that the watch every four or five seconds it momentarily stops like for half a second making it slower than it normally goes. I NEEED HEEEELP please somebody, im an expert now changing internal parts on this laptop because i have literally opened it a hundred times and i have tried changing the cmos battery, changing the hard drive, changing the RAM leaving it with only one slot, changing the wireless internal adapter. Nothing has worked for me. Im guessing that it might be some electric part thats not working properly, the only thing that i cant get is how can the brightness adjustment trigger this freezing effect. Please help me.

Re: When i turn off computer, the power stays on and all...

HI I suggest to reinstall with the discovery cds from fresh. and reset your BIOS setting as you first purchase. As rebel_245 predicted, your laptop had been invaded by either type of virus or spyware specially attacking on your display interface. I also recommend you start with otehr hard drive new and ready formatted from fresh. If this can cure yor system back to normal then that your system got virus. If it is still roviding the similar issue, You need to troubleshoot the mainboard down to component level to find where is is the main short of circuitry. I hope these hints will help you some ideas.

Re: When i turn off computer, the power stays on and all...

You might check for spyware, this will cause freezzing in some strange ways, as far as the power button staying lit, it may be the switch itself, now keep in mind that on laptops the swithc is on a small board, to which that board itself will have to be replaced, the time, if you have all your critcal windows updates on that should have taken care of that issue, if you have them all and it did not fix the issue, you may try flashing the bios, if your not comfortable in doing this yourself, and I do suggest you let someone with experince do that for you.

Hello, a friend recently brought me a Presario c700 asking me to fix it. When I inspected it, it has occured to me that the entire thing looks completely fine, inside and out, I've checked this thing with...

What I recommend is you remove everything you could possibly remove from the laptop (HDD, mems, cd rom, wifi cards, etc) just to check if it will turn off even when it's not booting or posting. Try turning it on with just the charger and WITHOUT the battery and see if it stays on. If it doesn't, then most likely the mobo itself is the problem.

Power light (next to ac input) flashes and clicks quietly when power cord is inserted. Computer will not turn on, no lights come on.

Murphy- It fixed itself. I think the computer just overheated and stayed that way for a long time. My guess is that the processor has an auto shutoff like a lot of laptops, and that it just has a set amount of time before it will come back on (an oddly long one). The only reason i was really worried was the ozone smell. That means melting plastic.

If yours is still having trouble, make sure it stays unplugged for a day, then try to plug it in again. If it works and has the same problem later, your heat sink probably needs to be cleaned of dust and particles. If it won't come back on at all, it might mean a fried processor or something less catastrophic but equally annoying, like a melted diode or something after the power light circuit but before the processor/boot sector.

Dell Inspiron E1505 shorting out adapter

I would replace the battery if you had for some time. Over time charging a battery will slowly not take a charge. If you tried two adapters, about the only thing is left is the battery.

To be very sure of what the problem is, try to test the your laptop with a another friend's battery, or through a technician first. If it powers, then try and test the laptop again with another AC Adapter, from someone who uses the same type, or a technician.
Trying out these two things will give you a clearer and better idea of what might have gone wrong.
Hope it helps you out.

I have a Dell D600 (PP05L), its not powering up no lights. I noticed on the power adapter the green light goes out when plugged into ac power. What could be wrong here? please help

Hook up your power adaptor to ac power without it being hooked up to the laptop and see if the green light stays on. If it does then you know your adaptor is okay. if your adaptor is only hooked up to ac power and the green light still turns off then you know your ac adaptor is bad.

Take out the battery from your laptop. Now hook up the ac adaptor to the laptop and if it stays green then you know your battery is bad but you also want to make sure you can get your laptop to turn on. Hopefully it will turn on with only the ac adaptor hooked up to it.

Flashing amber light

Attempt to boot the laptop with the battery removed and the AC plugged in. IF this boots ok it may very well be the battery circuitry which has failed.

Hpzd 8000 does not turn is getting as soon as i turn it on....

My Zd800 did the same thing and I figured out that the power adapter connection was flakey. I move it around in the back and finally the blue light stays on. I actually replaced one power adapter thinking it was out...turned out to be the connection to the back of the computer. I have tried other power adapters and same results. Considering taking the thing apart and soldering the wires. This computer has been a royal pain the a$$ since I bought it. I will try another laptop manufacturer on my next one. Any suggestions?
