Re: no sound

Do the headphones work in the same input where you are using the speakers? Open the Control Panel and Sounds and make sure everything is turned reasonably up and not muted. Also, in Device Manager you might right click on your sound card and try "update driver"

No sound from my stereo but powers on and can see EQ is moving. But when I plug my headphones in i get sound just nothing from the Speakers

Your problem is in between the speakers and your earphone jack but it has a hight chance that the fault is in the earphone jack.
Since when you plug your headseat, sound is coming out, this is an indication that your output IC is working. When you plug the headset the line will cut-off through your main speaker to hear the sound in the earphone only. But if you unplug the headset the contact will back to the main speaker. The problem is, the lead is dirty due to dust. You can spray it using the contact cleaner. I will not advice you to spray any penetrating oil but contact cleaner only. If the symptom is still there then this is the time to replaced the earphone jack with a new one.
Hope it may help you.
Have a nice day.
Thanks for using fixya.

I have just brought a 2nd hand Technics EH 780 but can't get the tweeter to work on the speakers, is it a problem in the set up of the amplifier?

Disconect the speaker(s) from the system. With a 1.5 volt battery touch the negative wire to the - of the battery. And for a short time only, the plus wire to the + of the battery. You should hear a pop! You might need to put your ear to the tweeter to hear it working. if it doesn't make any sound it's not working. Before chasing around for a new tweeter, open the speaker up and apply the test to the tweeter itself. If it now works the crossover part is faulty.
Tweeters are often the first to go when people run the amp at high volumes, so both could have gone!

No sound from Rear Speakers

Ok, so we know the connections are correct, the speakers all work properly.

The only other thing I can think of is: is your PC actually sending signal to the rear speakers? Have you set it to 5.1 surround, and are you playing something in surround sound? The best way of checking (personal preference) is use some kind of racing game, reverse into something and you'll get a broken window effect in the rear speakers.

So, check to see if your PC is sending the rear effects, double check to make sure the actual speakers work (you could plug an MP3 player into the rear speaker input.

If this doesn't help, feel free to reply.

I have a memorex stereo, turntable, 3 cd changer etc. The standby light comes on but no sound, it is only 2 yrs old..

Sometimes you have to unplug it for about 30 seconds, then when you plug it in press the power on button. If there is still no sound, check the speaker connections on the back they sometimes come loose.

Dear shelnaaqua,
Please connect the headphone to your system and check the sound quality,If it sound good then the connection of the speakers are not ok. This system has HI & low frequency output. Connect woofer to LOW frequency output and tweaters to HI frequency.

Sound Won't play

We had the same problem with our last rca stereo. I don't remember what model it was. My husband took it apart and found that there was and area on the circuit board that was fried. I don't know of any other solution then the one we chose. Trash it. I'm not expert but I would imagine that you could by a new stereo for the price of replacing that circuit board. Just don't buy an rca. They are junk. Our new rca just quit playing cds.

No sound when playing cd

What's cooking!? I too occasionally experience a similar problem with the RCA RS2042. When switching to the CD source, I receive sound from one speaker, while the other is faint. I have found that if you open the back and fotz around with the speaker connections (the system, not the speakers themselves), it will correct the problem. Have patience! Take care. -D

Sharp sd nx10_out signal trouble

Try all of the spaekers on the channel you know works. If all are fine, swap the speaker lines to test them. Is the input a DVD player on RCA cables? A bad signal cable from a component can be a source for problem. Connect the speakers directly to the amp(if possible) bypassing the sub box. If all works without the box, suspect bad crossover or in the self-powered boxes a bad amp.
